A poll involving 56,244 votes pitsZack Snyder’s Justice LeagueagainstAvengers:Infinity WarandEndgamefor the most popular superhero team-up film. The results surprised audiences, but perhaps what’s most interesting is what it can reveal about the desire for DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn and Peter Safran to move away from the Snyderverse.Snyder recently revealed details on Snyder-con 2, an event raising money for AFSP that premieresZack Snyder’sJustice Leaguein IMAX. This ends speculation that Snyder wanted to move on from DC and distance himself from fans amid the DCU reboot. According to a recent poll that pits Snyder’s magnum opus against the MCU two-part finale, audiences aren’t ready to move on either.RELATED:DC: 8 Comic Book Storylines We Hope Appear In James Gunn’s DCUEd Boon, the co-creator ofMortal KombatandInjustice, posted a poll that asked audiences to choose their favorite film betweenZack Snyder’s Justice LeagueagainstAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame, which produced 56,244 votes in total.Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguewon with 55.5%, holding 31,215 votes, compared to 45.5% forAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame. Judging by the replies before the poll ended, fans thought it was a done deal thatAvengerswould come out on top, but the results tell a different story. This is similar to Warner Bros. previously labelingZack Snyder’s Justice Leagueas a mistake only for the film to be described as a “cultural phenomenon” by HBO Max beforeZack Snyder’sJustice Leaguewon the fan choice awardat the Oscars (although bots were allegedly used to influence those results).
The results of this poll may also call into question James Gunn’s narrative of Snyderverse fans as a vocal “minority,” seeing as how 31,215 fans showed up forJustice Leagueunder a single person’s Twitter poll, against what many consider to be the best two MCU films. This is especially surprising sinceZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguenever saw a theatrical release. Also, general audiences might still consider it a director’s cut of a poorly received four-year-old film. However, the journey that fans embarked on to see Snyder’s true cut ofJustice Leaguehas made the film more meaningful than the stereotypical Hollywood blockbuster, at least to those fans, withZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguetopping Blu-ray sales and even receivingpraise from video game auteur Hideo Kojima.
Gunn has said his intention with the DCU was to “build upon what has worked” and “rectify what has not." However, the recentShazam 2box office bomband the results of this poll may tell a different story, especially with the Snyderverse films reportedly making $893.8 million in DC profits against the following DCEU soft reboot films that reportedly lost $570 million for the studio.
Zack Snyder’s Justice Leagueis available on HBO Max.
