Shazam! Fury of the Godactor Zachary Levi says DC has found its answer to the MCU’s most unconventional hero. According to Levi, Shazam and Deadpool share similarities despite being from different comic book worlds.
Levi’s comments come at a time when Warner Bros. and DC Comics are looking to revamp the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), with a focus on making the franchise more humorous and light-hearted.Warner Bros. In an interview withSFX Magazine, Levi explains thatShazam!andDeadpoolshare a lot of similarities, particularly in their offbeat sense of humor and their tendency to break the fourth wall. “I love that we get to be the most subversive of all the DC characters, almost like theDeadpoolof DC,” Levi said. “Deadpoolgets to sit outside of it and comment on it all and have fun with it all – obviously in a more R-rated, mature way. We do the same thing, just a little more family-friendly!”
Despite the challenges, DC has continued to release films featuring some of its most iconic characters,such as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Batman.Shazam!was also a hit among audiences and critics alike, thanks in part to its self-aware humor and heartwarming story.
