XCOM Chimera Squadchanges theXCOMformulain a number of ways, one of which is the inclusion of 11 different Agents, or characters. All of these Agents have unique abilities to make use of, and fitting them together into a competent squad is crucial to success once you’re actually in a fight.

There’s no better way to know what Agent’s are going to fit well into your squad/playstyle than by becoming familiar with them. This list is going to take a look at Agent Terminal; her abilities, how she fits into a squad, and how to get the most use out of her:

10GREMLIN DRONE

Most of Terminal’s abilities rely on the use of her GREMLIN drone, which makes a comeback from previous XCOM games. This drone can apply a number of positive effects on squadmates (or on Terminal herself); we’ll get into what each of these effects are throughout the list.

9REFRESH

One of the Breaching phase abilities available to Terminal is Refresh. This heals all allies entering that particular breaching point 2 HP upon entry, which can be a nice way to keep on top of everybody’s HP throughout a mission with multiple encounters.

8SUSTAIN/PIN DOWN

At the Field Agent Level, Terminal has access to two different abilities to choose from: Sustain or Pin Down.

Sustain allows Terminal to be reduced to 1 HP instead of bleeding out once per mission. This can be a (literal) lifesaver, but it’s definitely not an ability that you should be relying on, because it only activates when things are going particularly poorly.

Pin Down allows Terminal to fire suppressive fire at an enemy, pushing their turn further down the timeline. This can be a great way to delay an enemy that’s about to have a really damaging turn to get your squad in a better position to handle it.

7COOPERATION

Cooperation is a perk that’s likely to get quite a bit of use. This allows Terminal to give a nearby ally an immediate bonus action at the cost of one action for Terminal. Terminal doesn’t generally do much damage on her turns, so if the whole squad is in tip-top shape, you may as well give that extra action to someone who can do some more with it.

6SAFEGUARD

Safeguard is going to be another staple in Terminal’s rotation. This heals the target for 4 HP, as well as removing a slew of different negative effects. It also grants the target +20 Defense. This is the absolute best way to keep on top of your team’s HP situation, so use it liberally.

5ARMOR SYSTEM/RESILIENCE

At the Senior Agent level, Terminal has to choose between the abilities Armor System and Resilience.

Armor System is basically a buff to Safeguard; it gives the target of Safeguard +1 Armor. This can be a very nice bonus, and can, over time, make a huge difference throughout a fight.

Resilience is another pretty solid bonus; it causes Terminal to fully regain her HP at the end of every encounter. While this isn’t going to make any difference whatsoever in those single-encounter missions, it will make a huge difference in those three-encounter ones. It will save you having to use abilities like Safeguard on Terminal nearly as often as you would otherwise.

4SECOND WIND

The Principal Agent ability for Terminal, Second Wind, sends the GREMLIN drone to every single ally, restoring 4 HP to them all and removing any Poison, Burning, or Acid effect. It’ll also stabilize allies that happen to be bleeding out.

This is a really solid way to get a handle on a situation that seems to be rapidlyspiraling out of control.

3HACK DOOR

This is a relatively simple ability: there are certain doors at a Breach Point that are only accessible if they’re hacked by a GREMLIN drone. The Hack Door ability does exactly what it sounds like it does: it Hacks those Doors and gives you squad access to an area they wouldn’t otherwise be able to use. These areas generally are going to include fewer enemies with the Alert or Aggressive status, meaning everybody entering through here is in for an easier entry.

2ROLE

Terminal definitely fits into that Healer/Support role that a squad in XCOM needs. Most of her abilities revolve around keeping allies on their feet; few of them have anything to do with Terminal inflicting any kind of negative effects on the enemy. It’s generally going to be a good idea to keep Terminal a decent way back and out of the line of fire, that way she can focus on providing her teammates with bonuses as opposed to having to fight enemies off, herself.

1OVERALL

Terminal is another Agent inXCOMChimera Squad that you’re likely going to be seeing a lot of. There aren’t many other characters that are capable of filling a role that’s even remotely similar to what Terminal is capable of, and having her around is going to make every other Agents' job a lot easier. Just about every lineup is going to include a Terminal in there somewhere, and they’re all going to be better for her inclusion.
