Summary
TheX-MenMCU reboot plans to introduce mutants to the MCU. However, fans' lack of knowledge has caused plenty of theories and debates, and one proposal they certainly aren’t set on is the idea that they exist as a secret community hidden by Charles Xavier.
TheX-Men’s introduction to the MCU is in full swing, with projects likeMs. MarvelandThe Marvelsdropping hints by mentioning mutants andfeaturing Kelsey Grammer’s Beast. Mutants, humans born with the X-gene that causes the development of powers typically around puberty, have historically been alienated from the population because they’re deemed dangerous. So, in the MCU’s world of already existing heroes treated as celebrities, people are curious how the mutants' lore will fit in.

Started by userDifferent-Two-1398on the MarvelStudios Reddit page, X-Men fans recently discussed their feelings about the theory that Professor X has been keeping the mutants as a secret nation hidden away from everyone, causing plenty to share their lack of interest in the theory, which one compared to repeating Wakanda. While it seems intriguing, commenters point out that they wouldn’t even need a secret society to be kept separated from the rest of the world. Instead, they would only need small numbers to stay hidden from most people. Plenty of people agree a plot like this would hurtthe extensive history behind X-Men characters, and considering being a part of human society is integral to their story and how they are treated as “others,” the allegory to real-life marginalized communities wouldn’t hold up, especially considering the general population in the MCU have already accepted superheroes.
If Marvel Studios were to introduce a secret society beyond the normal realm, many fans believe an Inhumans plotline would be better than using the X-Men.The Inhumans are genetically engineeredhumans made by the Kree to use them as soldiers against the Skrulls after discovering their potential from the Celestials. However, the idea was abandoned, and Inhumans were mostly left to themselves on Attilan. However, they have already made live-action appearances in season two ofAgents of SHIELD,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the 2017 showInhumans, which only lasted one season.

OtherX-Men MCU reboot theoriesinclude the similar idea of Professor X mind-wiping everyone to forget about mutants, the multiverse introducing a timeline where they can exist, and that the Infinity Stones and subsequent snaps caused a small percentage of humans to return with genetic mutations, which would’ve been sensed by an already existing Professor X and possibly Magneto. While the last idea seems to be among the most popular, some fans believe this still cheapens things, because many legacy characters would need to be already in the picture.
The idea that seems to make the most sense while holding the important beats X-Men mutants have covered in various mediums is that instead of an entire secret nation, a community of scattered mutants hiding from persecution or not knowing others exist would work more seamlessly. As a couple of fans point out, Xavier’s school would be a safe place for those who can’t blend in, and from there, he’d start a team, being the one place where they can organize as a community.X-Men ideas will continue to run rampantuntil studio executives have finalized a decision, or at least untilDeadpool 3provides answers and more clues about what’s to come.
Marvel Studios’X-Menreboot is in development.
