However, some new evidence suggests that’s about to change in the near future. Blizzard recently put out a new build for aWorld of Warcraft ClassicEra Patch 1.15 on the Developer Branch. Because it is encrypted and developer-only, almost no other information can be gleaned about what this update is all about. That said, formerWorld of Warcraft Classicco-lead Brian Birminghamadded a cheeky comment onWoWcreator MrGM’s post about this discovery, lending credence to the hype.
In January,Birmingham was fired from Blizzardfor protesting its mandatory employee ranking system. However, his comment suggests he knows exactly what this secret patch is all about. Clearly,Classic WoWhas been working on something big from before Birmingham’s termination–and it is on its way to the live servers soon.
This bigWorld of Warcraft Classicpatch could be anything. It could indicate a second Season of Mastery is on its way, or thatWorld of Warcraftis implementing Hardcore realmsto cater to the growing community participating in the custom permadeath mode. Alternatively,World of Warcraftcould startClassicPlus–a concept gaining popularity among fans as aVanilla WoWserver with certain parts of later expansions added in. Player concepts for Classic Plus focus on adding content cut from Vanilla, but revisited in later expansions, to aWorld of Warcraft Classicserver. This could add zones like Hyjal into the base game, and reintroduce other exciting features and quality of life improvements, such as transmogs, faster leveling, world bosses, and talent changes, into aWoW Classicserver.
There has been no official word as to what this big change might be, or when it might arrive; right now, players only know something big is coming toClassic WoW. Fans can probably expect to hear something soon–perhaps afterWorld of Warcraftreleases Patch 10.1,Embers of Neltharion, to its retail servers on May 2.
World of Warcraft Classicis available now for PC.
