Summary
World of Warcraft Classicjust announced that Phase 4 of Season of Discovery is going to be delayed by a few weeks. This is primarily to letWoWmake sure the endgame phase of Season of Discovery is well-balanced, and so that its release doesn’t trip overCataclysm Classicor other newWorld of Warcraftreleases.
Season of Discovery isWorld of Warcraft’s experimental game mode that introduces tons of changes to theClassicformula. Each segment of Season of Discovery has raised the level cap and introduced new content, with each phase lasting between 8 and 10 weeks so far. Right now, Season of Discovery is at the tail end of Phase 3 as it gears up for Phase 4, thefirst endgame phase for theWorld of Warcraftexperience.

Unfortunately, players might have to wait a little longer for Phase 4 of Season of Discovery. In a recent forum post,World of Warcraftcommunity manager Kaivax announced that the next phase was going to be delayed, with senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield corroborating and extrapolating on the announcement on Twitter. Betweenthe launch ofWoW Remix: Mists of PandariaandCataclysm Classic, as well as the necessity to make sure this major season lands perfectly, it will be “several weeks” beforeWorld of Warcraftreleases Phase 4 of Season of Discovery.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase Start Dates
May 30 will be eight weeks sincePhase 3 started inWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery. This places the earliest release for Phase 4 at June 6 – three weeks after the announcement – but the content update may take even longer to prepare. While June 13 would match the 10 weeks of Phase 1, fans should be ready to wait even longer than that, though ideally no later than June 20, as anything longer would constitute more than “several weeks.”
That said, this announcement came alongside some good news as well. For the first time in its history,World of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery will be running a limited Public Test Realm for the runes and class changes coming in Phase 4. This will give players the chance to experiment with their builds without spoiling any of the new discoveries. Many classes will be receiving “substantial redesigns going into the level 60 endgame,” with somepowerfulWoW ClassicSeason of Discovery Rune abilitiesbeing baked into various kits among other changes, so in spite of this disappointing news, fans of the experimental mode still have plenty to look forward to soon.
