While the brunt of gaming events this June seems to be over, there’s more on the horizon. Several companies or reports have indicated more will be shown off in July, while several rumors indicate that a Nintendo Direct and/orSony’s State of Play could be happening next week to end the month.
It would be a great way to end June, but of course, the question is whether these are legit or not. In terms of the Nintendo Direct, several known insiders have reiterated it. One random online user, notably though, predicted theXenoblade Chronicles3 Directhours before it was announced, including its length. They also reference another Direct for this coming week, June 27-July 1.

ManySonyfans may also be curious about the possible State of Play, and for those who are, they should keep an eye on June 27 or June 28, with the latter being more likely.
State of Play Predictions – June 30
The idea of a State of Play has been floating around for a couple of weeks now, perpetuated by the idea thatGod of War: Ragnarok’s release datewould be announced at the end of this month. There were a few other rumblings that got disproved, like the potentialGran Turismoannouncement not happening at a State of Play, but Bloomberg reported the release date would come at the end of the month. To associate that with aGod of War-focused State of Play fits perfectly into Sony’s general approach to marketing.
Furthermore, the leaker who was right aboutHollow Knight: Silksongcoming to Game Passalso made a cryptic post, associatingGod of War: Ragnarokwith June 30. That’s an easy guess though, as while many recent State of Plays have bucked Sony’s typical pattern, the majority of State of Plays last year all occurred on a Thursday, which would be June 30. But nonetheless, the leaker’swords have built up a ton of hype forGod of Warand June 30, hype that could be dangerous if it’s not legit.

Why June 28 is Important to the Next State of Play
If June 30 is the date of aGod of War-focused State of Play, then fans should keep an eye on June 28. Nearly every State of Play is announced two days before, meaning those that took place on a Wednesday were usually announced on the Monday before and those happening on Thursdays were announced on Tuesdays.
Sony’s PlayStation pattern has gotten a little harderto predict, so truly it could be June 27 or June 28, but if the sun sets on June 28 without any announcement of a State of Play, the chances of it happening are severely diminished. It’s a small window of two days, but it’s super important in managing expectations. If the rumors and reports aboutGod of Warappearing somewhere this month are legit, then June 28 would be the proving point. If they are not, then the day will end with no fanfare and there would be no reason to expect anything more.
It’s also possible that theGod of War: Ragnarokrelease date is randomly revealed in a PlayStation Blog or something instead of a State of Play—it could be as simple as that. In that case, it’s harder to predict, but a State of Play is much more likely than that. To leverage Sony’s successful platform for one of its most successful IPs is a no-brainer, and if it is happening on June 30, fans will know by the end of June 28.
God of War: Ragnarokis in development for PS4 and PS5.
