Assassin’s Creed Invictus Has a Lot of Potential

Fans Have Missed Assassin’s Creed Multiplayer

First introduced inAssassin’s Creed Brotherhood, competitive multiplayer became a fairly important part of the franchise for a while in the early 2010s, being present in every entry right up untilAssassin’s Creed Unity, which swapped out the competitive multiplayer for a co-op component.

Generally speaking,Assassin’s Creed’s competitive multiplayer is looked back on very fondly by most with it delivering a multiplayer experience like no other at the time. In an industry flooded with military shooters,Assassin’s Creed’s cat-and-mouse multiplayerstood out immediately.

Assassin’s Creed’s multiplayer modesaw players attempt to hunt down a target, having to observe crowds and carefully and pick out the real player amid a sea of similar-looking NPCs, all while another player was on the hunt themselves. It was a simple premise for newcomers to wrap their heads around, and its high level of skill paved the way for some intense and satisfying multiplayer moments, such as narrowly escaping death and managing to slip seamlessly back into a crowd of NPCs.

Over the course of a few games,Assassin’s Creed’s competitive multiplayer experienced a gradual evolution, with additional modes, characters, environments, and mechanics all improving the game’s satisfying core loop. Each entry also improved the level of customization players could partake in, ranging from custom loadouts to cosmetics. It never went as far as to outshine its single-player component, and it did get a tad repetitive toward the end, butAssassin’s Creed’s competitive multiplayer scenewas ahead of its time in many ways.
