At The Game Awards, Airship Syndicate co-founder Joe Madureira revealedWayfinder, an online action-RPG collaboration with Digital Extremes. The reveal was part of a very busy night for the games industry, as Geoff Keighley’sGame Awards 2022was packed with new announcements and trailers including From Software’sArmored Core 6, Kojima’sDeath Stranding 2, and so much more.

The reveal ofWayfinderwas a longtime coming considering both Airship Syndicate and Digital Extremes announced a partnership four months ago at TennoCon 2022. Having just come off of anothercollaboration with Riot Games throughRuined King: A League of Legends Story, this latest project from Airship Syndicate has already been confirmed to be its biggest game to date. Formerly known under the codenameSkylight, fans were well aware that something would be shown thanks to a confirmation by the studio that it would be at The Game Awards.

After joining Geoff Keighley, Joe Madureira revealed the first trailer for the newly named and free-to-play titleWayfinder. Withmultiple unique Wayfinder characters to play as, players are given a level of freedom to not only customize their look, but build them out with weapons, gear, and abilities to match their playstyles. The trailer showed a few of them off including the assassin Niss, tank-like Wingrave, Kyros the battle-mage, Silo who wields ranged weapons like guns, and the hulking Amazon-style Sanja.

Gameplay-wise, the trailer have fans more than a few hints at what to expect fromthe former project known asSkylight. In addition to character advancement and chasing a variety of loot,Wayfindertasks players with entering areas called Lost Zones, which are randomized expeditions that players can customize using mutators as well as from augments and mods that the game adds as well. The game will also feature Cross Play and Cross Save as well as having a social space where players can interact, purchase housing, and group up to take on more challenging content that has yet to be announced.

While the game is slated for early access sometime in the Spring of 2023, interesting players have a chance to jump in as early as December 13 when Airship Syndicate is preparing to launch its first PC-only test. Considering this is Airship’s take on the MMO-style genre, Digital Extremes has partnered up to lend their expertise with the free-to-play elements as well as it experience with ever-changing community-driven titles considering howpopularWarframecontinues to beall these years later.
