Summary
Years after the games' releases,Bethesdadirector Todd Howard has revealed his one big regret applicable to bothFallout 4andSkyrim. Even thoughBethesdacontinues to release small updates for both games, there’s still one regret that Howard holds to this day.
Bethesda titles are a unique brand of RPG. The worlds the developer creates keep players engaged for years, and in some cases, likeSkyrim, well over a decade. Whenever Bethesda releases a new title, it feels like a real gaming event. While the games have their share of critics, overall, the gaming community at large simply can’t get enough of Bethesda’s releases. When it comes toupcoming role-playing games people are excited for, Bethesda games sit right at the top of the list for many gamers.

In an interview with MrMattyPlays, Howard was speaking abouthow long Bethesda plans to supportFallout 76. His answer was mostly driven by his regrets about previous titles, stating, “We would look back atSkyrim, which we’re still updating to a small extent and there’s all the creations and mods there, still a hugely played game. Same withFallout 4, that we wish we had supported them longer.” It’s interesting to see Howard so open about his regret with two of Bethesda’s most successful titles, but it’s good that the studio has learned the lesson and is applying it toFallout 76.
Todd Howard Regrets Not Supporting Fallout 4 and Skyrim for Longer
Howard’s regret about the amount of supportSkyrimandFallout 4received is interesting. Both games received several strong pieces of large DLC, which at the time provided more of what players were looking for. It’s easy to say Bethesda could have done more in hindsight, but very few could have predicted how active bothSkyrimandFallout 4would still be so many years after release. Even still,Skyrimcontinues to periodically receive small patches, andFallout 4recently launched its next-gen update. While Howard’s point of view is understandable, there won’t be many players out there complaining about a lack of support for these games.
…we wish we had supported them [Skyrim and Fallout 4] longer.
The interview with MrMattyPlays features a bunch of juicy tidbits of information regarding Bethesda’s future plans, including somebad news forFallout 1and2fans. On the flip side, Howard did speak a lot about Bethesda’s plans forStarfieldandFallout 76, with both games in for some great support over the next few years. It’s an exciting time to be a Bethesda fan, and hopefully, the studio is in for a great 2024 and beyond.
