Throughout the history of the notorious social media platform, it has become abundantly clear that the Reddit community has one the strangest, yet most frequently hilarious, senses of humor of any site on the internet. From making hilariouscrossovers betweenAnimal CrossingandDoom Eternalto the literal thousands of strange memes that originate from the site, it seems Reddit’s numerous forums have become a hub for people to make strange jokes that quickly go viral.

Case in point, a recent thread on theMarvel’s Spider-Mansub-Reddit, in which fans of the game have blown up the forum with photographs of themselves holding a very specific TV remote. If that sounds like a strange joke, it only gets better from there, with the small gag quickly transforming into a large-scale and utterlyhilarious memethat involves several of the subreddit’s members.

It seems the joke all started 2 days ago on May 30, where user Shecky_Shabazz14 posted a picture comparing their TV remote to one from in the game, with the player claiming that they owned the same TV remote as the game’s lead antagonist,Doctor Octopus. His remote can be found in his in-game office, on a desk beside his TV. Players were quick to point out that it was the remote for a Samsung TV, with many claiming that they too had the same remote. It seems things drastically escalated from here, with players beginning to post their own TV remotes, replicating the same image except using Shecky_Shabazz14’s picture instead of the in-game screenshot.

From there, another player replicated the TV remote post, except using the last user’s picture as the comparison. Numerous posts later and it seems the joke has completely taken over the subreddit, with players quickly growing the chain to extraordinary lengths. From there, it seems even more jokes spawned, with players quickly using otherSpider-Manmeme formats to join in on the hilarious fascination with Doctor Octopus' Samsung TV remote. One user even re-envisioned the classic pointing Spider-Man meme, using two of the now notorious TV remotes in the duplicate superheroes' stead.

It’s undeniably a funny gag that shows just how bizarreReddit’s sense of humorcan often be, especially when considering that the vast majority of the game’s sub-Reddit is dedicated to discussing aspects of the game’s story and where the title’s inevitable sequel will go. Hopefully, the chain will grow even longer in the days to come, especially as the community seems to be well and truly behind this utterly bizarre meme.
