The six-episode run that took Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes on a globetrotting journey to put an end to the Flag-Smashers’ threat capped off thing withan action-packed finalethat not only showcased the new Cap’s gadgets, but alsoa trifecta of enigmatic MCU charactersthat he might have to go up against in the near future. While it’s unclear if Anthony Mackie will get to make use of his new gear on theCaptain America 4film that’s already being plannedor even before that, Marvel isn’t waiting around that long.

That’s because the official @CaptainAmerica Twitter account beat the United States government to the punch as swiftly updated its profile to officially present Sam Wilson to the world donning the star and stripes in his high-tech Wakandan armor. Cap’s bio previously read “Just a kid from Brooklyn," while showing a picture of Chris Evans and a banner fromAvengers: Endgame, but now that’s been changed in favor of a picture of the iconic shield and a banner containing Sam Wilson’s official Captain America poster, simply reading “On your left.”
Die-hard Marvel fans might remember those words being the first Sam Wilson’s said to Steve Rogers inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, with the big reveal also almost coinciding withEndgame’spremiere two years ago. Funnily enough, Mackie himself was tweeting out about the possibility of a black Captain America nearly seven years ago, so it’s really come full circle for the actor who will take on a much bigger role in the MCU.
As the new Captain America, and lackingany real superpowers just like Tony Stark before him, Wilson could become one of the leaders of the Avengers in Phase Four, something which might not suit Tom Holland so well, since the former’s always poked fun at the Falcon’s sidekick role as part of his public fake feud with Mackie.
For Mackie taking the shield must really be a dream come true, especially for the way Sam’s own journey was portrayed duringThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with thetragic backstory provided by the first-ever African-America Cap, Isaiah Bradley. It also helps that the flying cap suit looks so awesome, just like in the comics.
