The wait for Rocksteady’s new project finally came to an end earlier today whenSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas finally announced. The game had a 20-minute segment at DC FanDome where new details were revealed and a trailer confirmed the title’s release window and launch platforms.

Rocksteady’sSuicide Squadgame leaked earlier this month when a poster featuring Superman’s head in crosshairs appeared. The studio stayed silent on the topic, saving all the big reveals for its slot at DC FanDome. The cinematic trailer forSuicide Squadalso confirmed that the game will only be released on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 platforms. The release window forSuicide Squadis set for 2022 which firmly places the game in next-gen territory. The new Xbox Series X and PS5 are aiming to launch Holiday 2020 this year, giving Rocksteady a couple more years to develop the game for next-gen standards and potentially gain an advantage from spending more time with next-gen technology.

The other big game DC game,Gotham Knights, was also announced at DC FanDome earlier today.Gotham Knightswill allow players to take control of members of the Bat Family in an effort to maintain order in Gotham City after Batman’s death.Gotham Knights, however, will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox Onein addition to next-gen consoles, whereas it looks likeSuicide Squadwill rule out any players who don’t have next-gen consoles by its release in 2022.

Rocksteady is known for developing the massively popularBatman Arkhamgames, which spanned three releases across two generations of consoles. TheArkhamgames significantly built upon the features of each console generation and it can be assumed the studioplans to do the same withSuicide Squadand will tailor it for peak performance from next-gen consoles. It’s likelySuicide Squadwill entice plenty of players to invest in a next-gen console if they haven’t already by the game’s release date.

It has also been confirmed thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewilltake place in the Arkham-versethat Rocksteady created in theBatmangames, which allows the studio to build on the playground of its previous games. How theArkhamgames build into the world ofSuicide Squadis yet to be explained, but it’s possible that the secret ending ofArkham Knightmay finally be explained in Rocksteady’s new game.
