These mighty gods are sometimes inspired by ancient tales, myths, and even Hellenism, allowing for anime fans to even watch new stories abouttheir favorite Greek gods. However, most of the anime gods are new and imaginative characters, and their stories often provide new perspectives on deities and religion itself.

The beings or gods in these series sometimes oversee multiple worlds in the story or are banished beings attempting to reclaim their power by acting as the main characters of the series. Regardless of the theme, anime is home to a variety ofpowerful gods, and when they descend on the battlefield, it shakes the entire universe they come from to its core. These gods vary in shape, size, personality, and strength, but they all claim the title in some way or form.

Blue Exorcistis a supernatural anime that loosely revolves around the religious entity known as Satan of Christianity. Serving as the main antagonist of the series, Satan, the devil himself, is known as the king of demons and the strongest of the entire race.

The Anti Spiral from Gurren Lagann

Satan is a vile and sinister force that can not be stopped and seeks to take control over the human world in part due to his ego and his thirst for vengeance. Able to control the weather, cause catastrophic earthquakes, and inhabit the hearts of the weak-willed, Satan proves to be the most dangerous threat to the human world along with his loyal sons.

One a highly intelligent, benevolent, and advanced race of the universe, the Antispiral forsook their existence after achieving peak intellectual abilities and learning the secrets of the universe. In the world ofGurren Lagann, spiral races are a supposed threat to the universe as a whole, which is why the Antispiral seek to snuff their light out wherever it may appear. Antispirals can manipulate the laws of the universe at their leisure, making them cosmic-level gods that can blink in and out of time, rewrite probabilities in their favor, and control the mecha power in the series. The Antispirals are true self-made gods that can not be stopped; they are only delayed.

God of High School

The story ofThe God Of High Schoolstarts off as a simple action fest where the most talented and youthful martial artists are invited to a tournament to prove their skill. Among the many occupants is Jin Mori, a level-headed and respectable young man who seeks challenge.

However, the story evolves as it’s revealed that Jin Mori is the reincarnation of Sun Wukong. As such, Jin Mori possesses immortality and unimaginable strength and is recognized as a supreme being even by other gods and demons alike. With the power of erasing a foe down to their atoms at his fingertips, Jin Mori is a deity not to be trifled with.

Athena in Saint Seiya

Athena appears in multiple anime as one of the most well-known deities of the Greek pantheon. However, she is rarely portrayed as accurately in power as she is inSaint Seiya. InSaint Seiya, Athena is the leader of the Saints, chosen warriors who aid her in protecting the Earth.

As the goddess of war and wisdom, Athena inherited Earth fromher father, Zeus, and has charged herself with protecting it from the other gods with sinister intent. Athena is a monstrously powerful Goddess, having fought against Poseidon and sealed him with a powerful barrier in the Arctic for thousands of years.

Shinra in Fire Force

Fire Forcehas been confirmed to be the prequel series to the highly popularSoul Eater, an anime where death rules over the land to keep chaos at bay. InFire Force, Shinra is the main character. He was cursed as a young child after his family was attacked by an Infernal.

Shinra’s pyro abilities were activated, and he was also bestowed an Adolla burst, placing his potential of power above others. In theFire Forcemanga, Shinra’s true power is fully released, and he becomes an all-powerful god by combining with the pillars within Adolla. Using this power, Shinra wipes away humanity’s despair and restarts the world anew. He has frighteningly limitless power, making him one of thestrongest gods in anime, period.

Buddha in Record of Ragnarok

Buddha is a rare god to make appearances in any anime, butRecord of Ragnarokdigs into multiple pantheons from all sources and brings the gods from them into the fight against humanity. Buddha appeared in the second season ofRecord of Ragnarokand shifted the scale of the tournament by choosing to fight for humanity instead of the Gods.

It takes atremendous amount of braveryand power to stand against Zeus, Hades, and Loki, but Buhda does so without fear. Wielding the six-realms staff and the power of true enlightenment, Buddha stepped up against the gods and achieved victory with little exertion. While normally, a betrayal would warrant death among the gods, no single god was willing to move against Buddha on their own, assuring his level of power.

Forest Spirit in Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke’sForest Spirit, aka Deer Good, was inspired by Japanese folklore tales, and he was the mighty god of life and death. This ancient anime god kept the balance on Earth. While the Forest Spirit had a smaller form, too, he could transform into a gigantic and terrifying being once provoked.

Even though the Forest Spirit was naturally a peaceful god who was immortal, if his head was removed, he would turn into a dreadful and deadly Night-Walker and become unstoppable until balance is restored.Princess Mononoke’s story follows Ashitaka’s adventures after the young boy finds himself in the middle of a war between humans and forest gods.

Madoka Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Madoka Kaname is one of the cutest andmost powerful anime godswho was born a human. She had to go through some truly horrible things as a magical girl while fighting with and against some of thedarkest magical girlsof all time.

After all the battles and the horrible things Madoka had to endure, she eventually turned into a mighty anime god who guided all magical girls as an omnipresent force. She’s also one of the few anime gods who wasn’t a god by birth but became one thanks to her heroic actions and pure heart.Puella Magi Madoka Magica’s story follows a group of middle school girls who become magical girls and find themselves in a deadly war against evil and powerful witches.

Ryuk in Death Note

Ryuk isDeath Note’s iconic Shinigami. Shinigami are Death Gods not just in this thrilling dark anime but also in Japanese culture. Ryuk was one of the many Shinigami who, one day, got bored and decided to let his death note fall to Earth and into human hands, so he could have some fun.

Even though he couldn’t have anticipated what the consequences of his action would be, he was still responsible for all the horrible murders that Light committed. While Ryuk rarely showed his powers, he was still one of the strongest and darkly hilarious gods in anime who appeared in all of thebestDeath Noteepisodes.

Kaguya in Naruto

Kaguya Otsutsuki, aka the Rabbit Goddess, wasNaruto’s mighty god who was also the strongest and most terrifying enemy Naruto and his friends ever had to face. She was one of the members of a powerful celestial clan, and she also ate the fruit of the God Tree and became so powerful that she could defeat anyone and even destroy the planet if she wanted to.

Kaguya wasoriginally a kind person; however, after she was betrayed, she grew more resentful. After she ate the fruit of the God Tree, she became more and more power-hungry and cruel and eventually turned into one of the most terrifying anime gods.
