Over the past two years, the folks at DICE have churned out loads of free content forStar Wars: Battlefront 2, building it up across dozens of updates and restoring faith in the game after itsinfamous loot box controversyturned off many players. But all good things must come to an end, and today, it was revealed that the last ofBattlefront 2’s free content will be coming this week.
This comes courtesy of DICE creative director Dennis Brannvall, who confirmed in a blog post that the game’s 26thcontent updatewill be released tomorrow, April 29, and will be the final one. After that, though, he explained that the studio will continue to provide general support, maintaining its servers, in-game challenges, and events like double XP for the time being. “ As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come,” Brannvall wrote.

As for tomorrow’s new content, the Battle on Scarif update will, like the name suggests, add a number of original trilogy maps to multiple modes, including thetropical planet Scariffrom the movieRogue One: A Star Wars Story. Along with Scarif, Hoth, Tatooine, Yavin 4, and the second Death Star will also be available in Supremacy and Instant Action, though Brannvall notes that all of these maps will exclusively feature ground phase battles. Additionally, Instant Action will receive an option to let offline solo players take on co-op missions with the help of AI companions.
The update will also provide players withStar WarsBattlefront 2’s final batch of new character skins, including new looks for Rey, Kylo Ren, and Emperor Palpatine based ontheir appearance inThe Rise of Skywalker. What’s more, players will be able to unlock special skins for Darth Maul and Rey by completing special challenges, those being eliminating 5,000 enemies and “uncovering the mystery on Takodana,” respectively.
From there, it’s hard to guess what DICE is planning to do next. Brannvall said back in September that DICEwasn’t working on aStar Wars Battlefront 3, citing a shrinking interest for sequels among consumers in favor of new content for existing games likeBattlefront 2. Now that studio is wrapping up making new stuff forBattlefront 2, though, it’s possible that it might start gearing up to make a new game, but there’s nothing further to go off of at this time.
