Knackis the name of a third person platformer that evoked the giddy nostalgia of titles likeCrash Bandicootbut with a modern twist and polished graphics. It was released aspart of the PS4 Pro’s launch lineup, showing off the console’s capability to a lukewarm reception.

Since then,Knackhas received a sequel and fan following, rescuing it from being a permanently forgotten franchise. 3D platformers helped build the PlayStation brand, and the genre continues strong with PS5 releases. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently filed a new trademark that ties into theKnackseries, which could be a sign that more wacky platforming action is yet to come.

Critics praisedKnack’ssolid concept but not the gameplay, but the news of an updated trademark for the existing IP looks to shine a light on the overlooked franchise. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s patent forKnacklists all of its applicable uses, with a key term being “Downloadable or installable home video game machine program and additional data.” At the very least this revelation implies more downloadable gaming content could be coming soon, which would also help re-affirm the series for fans who want more. A lot of new gaming rumors are also being discussed this week, making for a captivating timescale thatKnackis hopefully going to utilize.

Therefore, it is safe to say that any follow-up game forKnack 1 and 2has experience and financial backing behind it.

There is a slight concern based on the collection of products and services thatKnack’strademark consists of hardware properties and machinery more than usual entertainment trademarks, potentially hinting atKnack’sreturn being more focused on marketing and sales instead of a third entry to complete a trilogy. SinceKnack 2surfaced over 5 years ago, it is possible there is not enough viable interest in a return just yet.
