The Gamescom 2022 festivities have been an exciting time forSonic the Hedgehogfans with plenty of new details about the upcomingSonic Frontiers. A brand-newtrailer for the newestSonic the Hedgehoggameconfirmed the game’s previously leaked November 8th release date, as well as showing off some of its new “Cyber Space” levels. TheSonic the Hedgehogbooth at Gamescom also featured playable demos ofFrontiers, revealing the return of fan-favorite character Big the Cat. Now, an update to the Nintendo eShop has revealed the digital version’s file size.
Sonic Frontiers' new eShop listing was one of several recently added to the Nintendo online store, including other upcoming games likeHarvestellaandDisney Dreamlight Valley.Frontiers’official store listing shows the game coming in at 10.4 GB, running significantly larger than previousSonicgames on Switch likeSonic ColorsandSonic Forces.Frontierslooks to be a sizable game both in storage space and content, with the game’s new “open-zone” gameplay providing a more non-linear gameplay style than previousSonicgames.

Sonic Frontiers' trailers have already shown off several characters set to return in the newest 3D Sonic adventure, with the Gamescom trailer and demo booths confirming even more. Along with the previously-mentioned return of Big the Cat,Frontiersalso confirmed Amy’s appearancewith the trailer featuring her trapped in a cage.Frontiershas portrayed its overall story as presenting a darker tone with a deep sense of mystery placed around both the game’s main antagonist, Sage, and its setting of Starfall Islands.
WhileSonic Frontiersfeatured heavily in Sega’s Gamescom 2022 showing, the developer would not wait long before revealing its plans for the game. With Gamescom drawing to a close,Sega confirmedSonic’s next major convention appearancewould come late next month at Tokyo Games Show. Sega will featureSonic Frontiersas part of a dual booth and presentation with subsidiary ATLUS. ATLUS will reportedly be presenting more information about the upcomingPersonaconsole ports during its portion of the show.
Sonic Frontiersis set to take a major step in a new direction when it releases this year thanks to its new gameplay style and mechanics. The highly-touted “open-zone” gameplay inFrontierswill be joined bychanges toSonic’s combat system, as well as the implementation of an RPG-esque skill tree. DiscoveringFrontiers' new Koco characters will also give rewards to players who find them, with some giving boosts to Sonic’s stats.Frontierslooks to bring a whole new experience to the franchise’s 3D adventures when it releases in November.
