A recent mod letsSkyrimfans give the well-known housecarl Lydia the powers of the Dragonborn, allowing her to use Shouts and learn about the Way of the Voice. This is one of the more unique mods forSkyrim, created by Skarz2k, and it dangerously charges Lydia with the title’s classic dragon-based abilities. Along with her new power, it seems that Lydia will also function differently as a follower once the mod has been installed.
The followers inSkyrimcan be mischievous, confusing, and odd at times, though that hasn’t stopped fans from claiming favorites. From DLC characters to quest-specific followers, there are many NPCs that players can enlist on their travels. Lydia is the first and most popular companion inSkyrim, and it should come as no surprise that someone has chosen to make her more powerful.

The mod, called Dragonborn Lydia, gives Lydia access to Shouts and the knowledge of theElder Scrolls inSkyrim. She is capable of learning more about her power as she watches players use their own Dragonborn abilities. The interestingSkyrimmod, however, does not seem to take away any of Lydia’s supremely amusing personality traits. Players will now be able to witness epic failures as she begins to learn about her skills.
Of course, there is another aspect of this mod that’s worth mentioning. Lydia, along with many othercompanions inThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is not always very good at her job. She can get in the way, accidentally alter enemies, and even send arrows at her unsuspecting master. All of these issues will remain, but she’ll now have the ability to mistakenly Shout gamers from mountaintops or harm herself with a plethora of dangerous magical abilities. There’s also the hysterical suggestion that Lydia will begin to use her Dragonborn skills for mundane tasks around Skyrim.
Exploringthe beautiful locations ofSkyrimwith a follower, however, seems like a rite of passage for players. Without Lydia’s frustrating tendencies and endless storage, gamers wouldn’t experience some of the most enjoyable moments inSkyrim. While giving followers access to rare abilities will certainly expose players to even more chaos than they are used to, it may also help renew interest in parts of the title and give gamers something to smile about. Indeed, it’s great to see so much passionate content inSkyrimeven though the title was originally released more than a decade ago.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
