Word on the street is that Shinji Mikami is working on something, specifically a remake in collaboration with Capcom and PlatinumGames. Longtime gamers will knowShinji Mikamias a highly influential figure in video games, being the co-creator ofResident Eviland director of hit games likeResident Evil 4,Dino Crisis, andThe Evil Within, so even the possibility of him working on a new project is sure to have fans excited.

As spotted by news outlet Glitched, a mysterious post appeared on Mikami’s Facebook page recently. Said post made mention of an “unknown” remake being worked on by Mikami’s studio,Tango Gameworks, and the aforementioned companies, both of which he has personal connections to. While Mikami may be best known for the games he made during his time at Capcom, he also co-founded PlatinumGames, where he directed the 2010 third-person shooterVanquishbefore moving on to Tango Gameworks andThe Evil Within.

One can only speculate what this unknown remake can be, unless one Reddit user is to be believed. Claiming to share friends with Mikami on Facebook, they said that Mikami, in a November 1 post that was quickly deleted, stated that he was working on a “remake or sequel” to the2006 beat-em-upGod Hand. He also tagged Tango, Capcom, and Platinum in the post, according to the Reddit user. What’s more, he is said to have used the hashtag “GameAwards” as well. The obvious implication being that Mikami is teasing aGod Hand-related announcement planned for the Game Awards taking place next month.

A remake certainly doesn’t seem too far-fetched, given the evidence so far.God Handwas the last game developed byCapcom’s short-lived Clover Studio, and the last one Mikami directed for the company. The game, while met with mixed reception back in the day, is now considered something of a cult classic. Several of Clover’s top developers, meanwhile, went on to form PlatinumGames, so a newGod Handgame developed between Tango, Capcom, and Platinum could effectively serve as a Clover reunion of sorts.

God Handisn’t the only game that Mikami could be remaking, of course. Perhaps the unknown remake could be for one of the other games that Clover developed, likeOkamiorViewtiful Joe. Fans have also been speculating that Mikami is teasing aDino Crisisremake, though that seems less likely since Capcom already has a dinosaur-themed game,Exoprimal, in the works.

At any rate, it’s worth reminding that this is all unverified information, so take it with a grain of salt for the time being. But since2022’s Game Awardsare just a few weeks away, it shouldn’t take long to find out if Mikami does have a new project to reveal or not.
