Summary
According to a new rumor brought on by the recent Insomniac data breach, the upcomingMarvel’s Wolverinecould have real-time damage and regeneration in line with Logan’s abilities in the comics. Insomniac had already built goodwill among Marvel gaming fans with its critically acclaimedSpider-Mantitles when it announced a new game centered around the one and only Wolverine in 2021. Rumors hinted thatMarvel’s Wolverinewould embrace the darker aspects of the popular mutant hero, complete with some more brutal combat in comparison to Insomniac’s past superhero offerings.
Last month, Insomniac found itself the victim of a massive ransomware attack that resulted in major sales and development data being leaked to the public. A great deal of this was centered aroundMarvel’s Wolverine, with its plot, characters, and voice cast revealed alongside early alpha build footage of the game in action. To make matters worse, afully playable PC build ofWolverinewas released a short while after, much to the dismay of the developers working on it and fans hoping to jump into Insomniac’s next superhero blockbuster unspoiled.

Insomniac has since given a responseto the recent data breach and DMCA notices are being issued to some who downloaded the aforementioned PC build, but it appears that even more information aboutMarvel’s Wolverineis being unearthed as dataminers continue to dig through the leaked data. The Gamerreports that a video was pulled from theWolverinedata files showing what appears to be Logan’s mutant healing factor in action, featuring a humanoid figure being damaged and regenerating in real-time. The levels of injury displayed in this video include severe wounds and an exposed ribcage, a figure with their skin completely ripped off, and even a bloody skeleton.
These are all things Wolverine has survived in countless Marvel comics over the years, as one of his primary powers is an accelerated healing ability that lets him recover from virtually any life-threatening injury. BeforeMarvel’s Wolverine, the2009X-Men Origins: Wolverinetie-in gameimplemented this to much praise, allowing a digitized Hugh Jackman to suffer bone-exposing wounds - only to quickly heal once the player stopped taking damage. This year’sMarvel’s Spider-Man 2featured a slightly similar damage system for Peter and Miles, though this naturally only affected their superhero outfits rather than their skin and muscle.
Like all other information surfaced fromthe Insomniac ransomware attack, this leak surrounding Logan’s healing factor inWolverineshould be taken with a grain of salt for the time being. After all,Wolverineis still deep in development, and anything shown in these leaks could always be altered or taken out entirely - something that the developer pointed out while addressing them shortly after the breach. That being said, Logan’s healing factor is a defining trait of the character, and will almost certainly be implemented in some capacity inMarvel’s Wolverine.
