WhileResident Evil 3only launched just over 2 months ago, given the brevity of its campaign and the annualized releases in the franchise as of late, fans are already clamoring for the next series in Capcom’s massive survival horror franchise. As rumors have begun to permeate throughout the industry, it seems Capcom is finally gearing up for the announcement ofResident Evil 8, presumably titledResident Evil 8: Village. That is, if German retailer GamesOnly is to be believed.
While rumors forResident Evil 8first popped up even beforeResident Evil 3’s release, speculation really ramped up after notable horror game leaker AestheticGamer1 (also known as Dusk Golem)posted details on Twitter, such as the game’s title,Resident Evil 8: Village, and that it had started development asResident Evil Revelations 3. They also mentioned thatResident Evil 8will be a cross-generation title, meaning that it is likely to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Today, Twitter user Ken Xyro has noted that a listing for “Resident Evil 8: Village [Uncut Edition]” on PlayStation 4 is currently live on the German online games retailer GamesOnly, with a description claiming “It should beby far the darkest and cruelest part of theResident Evilseries… Stay tuned…” The “[Uncut Edition]” referred to in the title is a common branding for German games, as in some cases titles can see censored releases in Germany.
The fact that this is a PlayStation 4 listing lends credibility to AestheticGamer1’sclaims that the title will be cross-generational, especially given that the Twitter user has alsopointed to Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 reveal eventas the event in which the title will be revealed. This matches up with pastResident Evilannouncements, asResident Evil 7: Biohazardwas announced at Sony’s E3 2016 conference, followed byResident Evil 2’s remake debuting at their E3 2018 conference andResident Evil 3’s remake debuting at the December 2019 State of Play presentation.
Whilenothing concrete is known aboutResident Evil 8so far, and all of the above is speculation, given the recent annualization of the series starting withResident Evil 2’s launch in 2019 andResident Evil 3’s in April of 2020, combined with their incredible financial performance, it is likely that Capcom will want to keep the franchise’s success stable with yearly releases, especially if it has enough teams working on it. This release schedule would also match up with the rumoredResident Evil 4remake, which is rumored to launch in 2022.
Resident Evil 8is rumored to launch in early 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
