One fan of Nintendo and Game Freak’sPokemon Scarlet and Violethad an unusual aquatic encounter with a Flareon, snapping a picture of the Fire-type Pokemon seemingly going for a swim in the midst of battle. Many players of the pair of open-world, creature-catching games have been ensuring their Pokemon are ready to fight ahead ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Tandemaus Tera Raid Battleevent taking place on Valentine’s Day.

Making its first appearance all the way back with the franchise’s initial outings, 1996’sPokemon Red and Blue, the Fire-type Pokemon Flareon is one of the manydifferent Eevee evolutionsavailable to players throughout the long-running series. Created by evolving an Eevee using a Fire Stone, Flareon is one of several classic Pokemon that return for trainers to capture or battle inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Given that Fire-type Pokemon are notoriously weak against Water, it’s not every day that players spot the hot-blooded Flareon going out for a swim.

In an amusing series of photos shared to the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit, user TheCatGirl139 shows off her encounter with a floating Flareon in one ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s many bodies of water. The screenshot shows TheCatGirl139 engaged in battle with a high-level Flareon who, in an unusual move for the Fire-type Pokemon, sits half-submerged, looking thoroughly unbothered by the damp surroundings. Citing the photos as proof that the fiery Pokemon can swim, the post drew attention from fans of the evolved form of Eevee.

Some commenters responding to the unusual screenshots pointed out that being weak against Water-type Pokemon doesn’t necessarily mean that Flareon shouldn’t be able to swim, citing the fact that every other “Eeveelution” can swim. Other responses wondered why the Fire-type Pokemon would spawn in the water, positing that it could be a result of one of the manyglitches inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Thinking back to thePokemonanime, one Redditor replied that the show stated that Fire Pokemon avoided water because it hurt them, meaning this might be a particularly painful swim for the floating Flareon.

Whether it was a glitch or just the desire for a soak that led this particular Pokemon to end up floating in the drink, these amusing screenshots are sure to bring a smile to fans of the fiery Flareon. Just to be safe, though, TheCatGirl139 might want to keep their distance if they see theelectric Eevee evolution Jolteonout for a swim the next time they load up the game.
