ThePokemonfranchise has inspired countless talented people to create tributes to their favorite pocket monsters over the years. However, some Pokemon are more popular than others, appearing again and again across many different mediums. Recently, onePokemonfan created an incredible handmade wood Gyarados in a showcase of passion and artistic skill.

Known as the Atrocious Pokemon, Gyarados is one of the most famous Pokemon in the entire franchise, introduced in Gen 1. Part of its notoriety comes from its intimidating, sea serpent-inspired appearance, but part of its fame comes from its nature as the mighty evolution of an incredibly weak Pokemon. According to the Pokedex, theweak fish Pokemon Magikarpevolves into the intimidating Gyarados when its rage boils over and becomes uncontrollable.

Redditor mezawoodndyes shared a short, 19-second-long video showcasing their wood creation: an enormous piece of wall art depicting a Gyarados. The Pokemon is captured slithering forward in the iconic pose featured on most of its official art, complete with flared-out fins and a gaping, fanged mouth. According to the accompanying text, thispiece ofPokemonwood artwas made entirely by hand using various exotic woods. Reportedly, no paint, stains, or dyes were used in its creation.

Mezawoodndyes described this piece as their best work to date, and fans of the series may find it easy to see why. Gyarados' head and body have been separated into segmented sections of wood, with different materials used to bring out the details of its design. The underside, markings, teeth, eye whites, and flats of the fins are captured in light-colored wood, while the rest of the Pokemon’s snake-like body and its irises are presented in deep reddish-brown woods. The result looks very muchlike a shiny Gyarados, which are a bright scarlet color instead of the usual sky blue.

In a comment below the post, mezawoodndyes explained that thepiece of woodenPokemonart had taken between 20 and 30 hours to put together. Apparently, all the colors shown in this display are natural to the woods in question, a list that includes bloodwood, purpleheart, leopard wood, and ash. The art piece also contains pieces of curly maple, osage orange, padauk, wenge, and cherry wood. Furthermore, the artist noted that they had a shiny Gyarados in mind when working on this piece. This incredibly intricate piece of fan art shows what truly talented and dedicatedPokemonfans can achieve.
