Summary

APokemonfan designed a new regional variant of Wiglett, a Generation 9 Pokemon that made its debut inPokemon Scarlet and Violetfor Nintendo Switch last year. In thePokemonuniverse, Wiglett shares similarities with the iconic Generation 1 Pokemon Diglett, but the Pokemon are considered two separate species by researchers.

Wiglett is clearly distinguishable from Diglettdue to the Pokemon’s long, pale body inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. What’s more, Wiglett is a Water-type Pokemon that often lives in the sandy beaches of the Paldea region, whereas Diglett tends to live in tunnels and caves. After reaching level 26, Wiglett will evolve into the three-bodied Pokemon Wugtrio with substantially better stats. Unlike the standard Wiglett, Wugtrio’s body adopts a bright shade of red upon its successful evolution.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetfan Matratzfratz recently designed a new regional variant of Wiglett that buries itself in a wooden log instead of sand. The regional variant is a Grass-type Pokemon, so this version of Wiglett likely lives in forests and grassy areas instead of beaches. In addition, Matratzfratz designed a new regional Grass and Fighting-type Wiglett evolution called Whacklett. This evolved form of Wiglett has a single body instead of three bodies like Wugtrio, but the Pokemon retains its recognizable red hue. Whacklett carries a large spiked club around instead of Wugtrio’s black spiky rock, however.

Due to its convergent nature, the regional Wiglett have different types when compared to their originals. Despite the change in types, several fans in thePokemonReddit community believe the newly designed Wiglett and Whacklett are interesting ideas for new regional convergent Pokemon inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Convergent Pokemon tend to share characteristics with similar Pokemon, so the regional Wiglett and Whacklett carry over prominent physical traits from theDiglett and Paldean Wiglett Pokemon.

The chances of a new Wiglett variant arriving inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’snew DLCappear to be slim, but the new concept could be possible in the next generation of Pokemon. The Galar and Paldea regions both introduced regional Generation 8 and Generation 9 Pokemon respectively, so the possibility of new regional Wiglett in Generation 10 remains.

Wiglett appears to be very popular in thePokemon Scarlet and Violetcommunity, so players will likely continue to use and trade the Pokemon in the Teal Mask DLC. SomePokemonfans have even designed theirshiny version of Wiglettwith different hues and effects.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare available now for Nintendo Switch.
