Limited-edition consoles based on popular games are a tradition that goes back to the early days of video gaming, but have become more prevalent with modern-day consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Specialconsole design concepts for games likeHalo Infinitefrom fans have become popular online as well, with one of the most popular designers, XboxPope, now trying their hand at messing with Sony’s PlayStation 5 through a concept based on Sucker Punch Production’sGhost of Tsushima.
The upcoming open-world action-adventure game, following a samurai warrior named Jin Sakai in 13th century Japan fighting for the freedom of his homeland, is set to be one of the last console exclusives for the PlayStation 4. Itofficially went gold earlier this week, meaning the game has reached its finished build, with plans to release on July 17.

This black-and-red console covered in Japanese kanji is the first (of hopefully many) PlayStation 5 designs released by XboxPope, who has primarily been working on concepts forXbox Series X designs based on games likeAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. The British artist said in their tweet advertising the design that they thinkGhost of Tsushimalooks “amazing,” and wishes Sucker Punch luck in pushing it out for a successful release.
ThePlayStation 5’s design was only just revealed by Sonyduring its “Future of Gaming” livestream earlier this month, which also introduced the world to a number of games that will likely be great subjects for special-edition designs going forward, includingRatchet & Clank: Rift ApartandHorizon: Forever West. XboxPope’s design is specific to the main PS5 model, but with there also being a digital-only version this begs the question of how Sony will handle special consoles going forward.
WhileGhost of Tsushimais a samurai game with mystical elements, the developers have said that Rockstar Games’Red Dead Redemptionis its main inspiration in terms of gameplay. The idea of mixing this era of history and gameplay style has left many excited for the game leading up to its launch, which is now only a few weeks away.
Clearly XboxPope is one such fan excited for the release ofGhost of Tsushima, and their tribute in the form of a console design is as spectacular as ever. With the PS5 still fresh and new, it will be interesting to see what titles they use to decorate the console going forward.
Ghost of Tsushimais planned to release on July 17 for PlayStation 4.
