Gamers have been ghost-hunting inPhasmophobiaover the last year, and it looks like developers at Kinetic Games is about to improve the experience by adding two additional ghosts to the game.
Joining the nextPhasmophobiabeta patch will be two ghosts known as Hantu and Yokai. These ghosts were already teased on the official Kinetic Games Twitter account, but it didn’t reveal much about them other than the fact that they’ll be part of the next beta update.

The Japanese term for spirits and ghosts is Yokai, and inPhasmophobia, they’ll be more attracted to human voices. Given that this ghost is identified as a Yokai, it may have Japanese origins. Talking near a Yokai will anger it, but staying quiet will make it harder for them to trackunsuspecting ghost-hunters inPhasmophobia.
The other new ghost, Hantu, is rarer and appears in hotter climates, reacting aggressively to cold weather. Hantu is the Malaysian and Indonesian word for spirit or ghost, and it typically means spirits of the dead but may also refer to demons. The sinister nature of the Hantu may be scarier than the ghost itself, but the Yokai will keep ghost-hunters tighter lipped.
Kinetic Games has been transparent about its known issues through a public Trello board, where the studio alsoconfirms future features and new ghostscoming to the beta. It is on this Trello board wherePhasmophobiafans first noticed the upcoming ghosts, which were teased as green and yellow cards on the website. Kinetic Games will release more information on the upcoming beta build as it continues adding new daily challenges for prospective ghost-hunters.
Just like any other ghosts, Ghost-hunters will have to use an assortment of tools in order to identifywhich ghosts they’re encountering inPhasmophobia’s haunted housesand abandoned schools. While identifying these ghosts, the ghosts may turn on ghost-hunters and become truly threatening. With the Yokai being so angered by nearby ghost-hunters, it may become the next big threat inPhasmophobiaonce the next beta update releases.
The latest update toPhasmophobiamade all ghosts even harder to evade, except for the Revenants, due to a buff to their movement speed. The combination of this speed buff and the teased behaviors of the Yokai and Hantu will make both of the upcoming ghosts a threat to any prospectivePhasmophobiaghost-hunter, so it may take some gameplay style overhauls to overcome the new challenges.
