WhileStrikerstook the beat-‘em-up route,Persona 5 Tacticainstead takes the approach of a tactical RPG. It also takes on an entirely new story, driven largely by new characters Erina and Toshiro. ThePersonaseries made the leap through genres well, which might be unsurprising considering the many other spinoffs starringPersonacharacters that have come to pass beforehand.
Persona 5 Tactica Could Be the Start Of Persona’s Next Spin-Off Series
Persona 4: Dancing All Nightdid more than create acatchy dance soundtrack forPersona. It was the start of a spin-off that has encompassed all three of the latest installments of the franchise. So far, thePersona Dancingspin-off series has expanded to include:
WhenPersona 6comes out, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it ended up receiving its own installment in thePersona Dancingseries as well. While it’s a surprising direction for the characters to take, it has become a minor tradition for thePersonagames.
With thePersona Dancingsubseries in mind as a reference, it’s possible thatPersona 5 Tacticacould be testing the watersfor similar games featuring previousPersonacasts. Considering thatPersona 3 Reloadwill be released soon, the game’s cast will be back in the public eye again.Persona 5 Tacticadid a good job of proving thatPersona’s signature elements can work well in that tactical style. Since the combination turned out so well, it feels natural to try again with another group of characters. After all, thePersonaseries has been thriving on spin-offs in addition to main series entries.
Personaspin-offs don’t have to be restricted to a single game’s cast, as thePersona 4 ArenaandPersona Qgames featured party members from multiplePersonatitles.
Of course, there may be a couple of obstacles to overcome in expanding the spin-off series. With the exception ofNaoto fromPersona 4and Aigis fromPersona 3, none of the protagonists from the two previousPersonagames used guns. With guns being such a vital weapon inPersona 5 Tactica, a spin-off with other casts would either need to introduce guns, or come up with a new approach to combat. However, this could work as a twist to make anotherPersona Tacticaspin-off even more unique. There’s definite potential for anotherPersona Tacticagame starring previous protagonist parties.
WhilePersona 5 Strikershas yet to lead to a full subseries, there’s good reason to expectPersona 5 Tacticato exceedStrikersin this sense. While thePersona 5crew has been benefiting from a lot of attention in recent years, it would be good to see some of the older characters again.Persona 5 Tactica’s formula could be put to good use in a game starring the casts ofPersona 4orPersona 5. Fans have gotten to revisit these old characters through dancing spin-offs, so another adventure in the vein ofPersona 5 Tacticacould be in the cards as well.
