Summary
Palworldmay be similar toPokemon, but it’s also different enough to stand on its own. As an open-world survival game,Palworldlets players gather materials to build bases and defend them against evil poachers or even wild Pals. The Pals can also serve as companions that help keep the camp safe and accompany players on their adventures.
Of course, surviving harsh environments inPalworldalso means gathering food for sustenance and health, be it foraging for mushrooms and berries or butchering the Pals around the area. It’s similar to how thePokemonuniverse never shied away from the fact thatpeople can eat some Pokemon, while also saving the gory details from fans. However,Palworldtakes it up a notch with a topic that not evenPokemonhas touched: Pals like Nitewing eating other Pals.

The Disturbing Reality of Palworld’s Cannibalism
Recently, aPalworldfan shared a disturbing sight of aNitewingeating the dead body of an Eikthyrdeer, which many other players have witnessed as well. This sparked a number of online discussions about the possibility of Pal cannibalism in the game. If one looks at Nitewing’s Paldeck Entry, it details that it brings newborn Pals to its nest and acts as their surrogate parent. Once the Pals have fattened up, Nitewing will hunt them, so it’s not a secret that it’s a violent creature.
Pal name

Nitewing
Paldeck Entry
It carries newborn Pals to its nest and raises them as a surrogate parent. Once the baby Pal has fattened up, it hunts them.
Nitewing can also be seen flying over dead humans and Pals, like a vulture waiting to scavenge their bodies. Another Pal named Tocotoco also does this when it sees a nearly dead Pal on the field. The point is thatPalworlddoesn’t hide the fact that some Pals feed on weaker Pals — the official trailer already gave a hint after showing aRelaxaurusdevouring a defenseless Pengullet.
The cannibalism inPalworldmay be disturbing, but it also adds a sort of realistic touch because it shows that natural selection exists in the game. InPokemon, some Pokedex entries mention Pokemon hunting for other Pokemon, such as Woobat preying onBug-type Pokemonin dark caves.
However,Pokemonnever shows the pocket monsters chowing down on other monsters — perhaps the closest wasBlaziken almost eating Torchic-shaped snacks inPokemon Journeys. But if they’re akin to wild animals, one can only assume that they hunt other Pokemon when they’re hungry. Other than that, they just injure or knock them down during battles.
Palworld’s Pals Are More Than Just a Cute Face
As players dive deeper intoPalworld, they’ll realize that cannibalism amongPalsis the least of their worries. Many Pals have disturbing attributes that are detailed on their Paldeck Entries, such asHangyu ripping off the skin of criminals to execute themusing its freakishly long arms. The squid-like Pal, Killamari, can also attach itself to the heads of its victims to suck out their innards and essentially turn them into mummies. There are many others withinPalworld’s monster roster, which show a glimpse of the world’s dark underbelly.
The gruesome details about many Pals, from cannibalism to some creatures allegedly being connected to hell, might set the tone for future updates toPalworld. Fans could expect more disturbing encounters and stories about Pals as Pocket Pair expands the game.
