Summary
Palworldhas been thoroughly captivating players since its early access release and, as developer Pocketpair has committed to updating the game regularly to ensure it remains an enjoyable experience, they are likely to continue traversing the game’s whimsical Palpagos Islands in search of more of the animal-like creatures who thrive there. There are over 100 Pals for players to collect inPalworld, all of which are distinct from one another in their characteristics and skills.
Palworldis unique in a multitude of ways, but especially in the opportunity it gives players to use many of its Pals as mounts. Pal mounts come in all shapes and sizes, and they are even more diversified in their speed and skills. Players can obtain one fairly early on in their adventures through the Palpagos Islands, although early mounts are typically underwhelming. Additionally, as is the case with almost any game that includes mounts,Palworld’s flying mounts are among its best.

S-Tier (Flying)
As faras Palworldmounts go, Jetragon takes the cake as the best mount overall. Not only is it a flying mount, but it has the highest speed of any mount in the game and is therefore worth obtaining as soon as possible. Unfortunately,Jetragon is a level 50 boss fight, so players will need to wait untilPalworld’s very late game to get a chance at capturing it.
S-Tier (Ground/Water)
Some ofPalworld’s best ground and water mountsare strong due to their speed and ability to jump multiple times. While Necromus and Paladius are already widely considered the best ground mounts inPalworld, they are both level 50 bosses, and therefore players shouldn’t attempt to face them until very late in the game. However, Direhowl, which is even noted in the Paldeck as one ofPalworld’s fastest mounts, can be captured fairly early on, so players should seek it out as soon as they can.
A-Tier (Flying)
Unfortunately for new players, many ofPalworld’s best flying mounts, aside from Jetragon, are only obtainable late in the game. Frostallion and Frostallion Noct are both level 50 bosses, and Faleris lies in wait on a small island in the far northeastern corner of the map, so players will need a swimming or flying mount to reach it.
A-Tier (Ground/Water)
Players who can’t wait forPalworld’s late game to get a fast ground mount can opt for a few of the game’s A-tier mounts, including Eikthyrdeer, Kitsun, and Arsox. However, even these will require players and their Pals to reach a mid-game level before attempting to capture them. To obtain the Fire Pals here — Blazamut and Blazehowl — players will needheat-resistant armor, which can be crafted inPalworld’s mid-game as well.
B-Tier (Flying)
Ragnahawk, Shadowbeak, and Beakon are allmid-game flying mounts inPalworldthat will serve players very well as they work their way toward its late game. Both Shadowbeak and Beakon can be found in the northeastern section of the map, but they’ll need cold-resistant armor if they plan to go there. Ragnahawk, on the other hand, is found in the southeastern corner of the map, which will require them to wear heat-resistant armor to stay alive.
B-Tier (Ground/Water)
Some ofPalworld’s B-tier ground mounts are surprisingly agile, and can even be captured before players reach level 20.Palworld’s Melpacais among those, as it can be found in incredible numbers throughout the Palpagos Islands' central region. Chillet is a swimming Pal that can be found in the northern part of central Palpagos for players looking to quickly traverse the water around the islands. A Grintale boss can even be found in the central region of Palpagos, which can then serve as a formidable ally as well as a decent mount.
C-Tier (Flying)
Helzephyr inPalworldis likely the best first choice for players looking for a fairly early quick mount, since it can be found around Palpagos' central region. In addition to being a decently fast mount, Helzephyr also applies dark damage to the player’s attacks while they’re mounted, making this Pal suitable for more than one task. Suzaku and Quivern, on the other hand, are in the far reaches of the map that players won’t likely visit until they reachPalworld’s mid-to-late game.
C-Tier (Ground/Water)
Despite being further down the list, a few ofPalworld’s C-tier ground mounts can be acquired early on in the game. While none of them quite compare tothe speed and ferocity of a Direhowl, they are still worth obtaining as players come across them in the wilderness. Dinossom, Mossanda, and Rushoar, for instance, can all be found in the central area of the Palpagos Islands, and are not too difficult to catch with the right team and Pal Spheres. As for the others, like Surfent Terra and Kingpaca, players are better off waiting until they happen upon them rather than seeking them out to use them as mounts.
D-Tier (Flying)
Among the worstflying mounts inPalworldis Nitewing, which is likely to be the first flying Pal that players encounter during their journey through Palpagos. That being said, it is still a worthwhile catch, as it can help players reach previously unreachable areas very early on in the game, and it is not very difficult to capture. Other D-tier flying mounts, like Vanwyrm and Astegon, are found in mid-game areas that require special armor, so they aren’t worth the trip duringPalworld’s early game.
D-Tier (Ground/Water)
As new players begin their first adventure in the fantastical world of the game, they are likely to stare in amazement at the massive beast that isPalworld’s Mammorest. This large, very slow Pal mount can be encountered in the game’s first moments, and is not worth the fight nor the attempted capture — at least not until players progress through the game a bit. The majority ofPalworld’s other D-tier ground mounts are not easily encountered in the early stages of the game and are more useful for their skills in combat than anything else.
Palworldis currently in early access and developer Pocketpair has devoted itself to ensuring the game remains an excellent experience for its fans. As such,Palworld’s best mounts are likely to rotate as updates are made to the game and new Pals are added in future patches. Until then, players should focus on obtaining mounts such as Direhowl and Jetragon to continue traveling across the wondrous islands of Palpagos at full speed.
