Overwatch 2has launched its second season that saw the introduction of Ramattra to the game, and a player from the game’s community noticed a rather interesting detail about his Poseidon skin. The newOverwatch 2herois a dual-role character, being fundamentally a Tank, but capable of switching into a Nemesis form that can hunt down the enemy team with zeal. He is described as the Magneto to Zenyatta’s Professor X, and his name is derived from the Sanskrit word rāmatra that loosely translates as dark defender.

ThoughRamattra’s story and history with Zenyattawill be explored in the upcoming episodic campaign ofOverwatch 2, players are already having plenty of fun with the hero in the new season. Despite complaints about the slowness of the map rotation inOverwatch 2, introducing Ramattra has wiped away some of the staleness in the competitive scene ofOverwatch 2, and bought Blizzard a bit of time to address the longterm concerns of the fanbase.

Among the numerousGreek Mythology skins thatOverwatch 2heroes have gotten, Ramattra’s Poseidon skin is a definitive standout. There’s one thing that many players felt was missing, however, and that was Poseidon’s iconic trident. With Ramattra having a staff that could easily be converted into the trident, and given that it featured in the trailer for Season 2, fans were left confused about Blizzard’s decision to stick with the default Ramattra weapon of choice.

The truth is rather close to a hypothesis introduced to theOverwatch 2community on Reddit by Bamboozle55, who put forward the idea that the trident is likely exclusive to Ramattra’s victory pose, emote, or highlight. Ramattra’s staff gets transformed into a trident with an emote, but otherwise remains its default self for the purpose of combat. A design philosophy that has always been a mantra for theOverwatchteam (and Blizzard as a whole) is the importance of silhouette and maintaining Ramattra’s silhouette unfortunately takes precedence, even if the trident would likely be the more appropriate choice.

WithJunker Queen’s Zeus being the mythic skin for Season 2, Blizzard continues to invest and expand upon the cosmetic side ofOverwatch 2. Though players have always been satisfied with the hero skins ofOverwatch, the surrounding monetization system of its sequel still leaves a lot to be desired. As fun as Ramattra’s twenty dollar Poseidon skin is, many players agree thatOverwatch 2would greatly benefit through more accessible skins that are earned through gameplay, as opposed to real money.

Overwatch 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
