Most players know that video games can be a form of expression or can provide some deep meaning, which is why anOblivionfan decided to pay tribute to a departed loved one by adding in a small memorial in their name. While theworld continues to wait forThe Elder Scrolls 6, there are still plenty who are happy to jump back into the previous entries in Bethesda’s long-running RPG franchise. After all,TES4is still a classic role-playing game, even today.
Of course, the fact that it’s aged over the past decade and a half does mean thatOblivioncan be unintentionally funny, but a dedicated fan base is still keeping the province of Cyrodiil in the gaming limelight. Sure,Skyrimis undoubtedly the most popular and successful entry in the series, but the fourth entry is still iconic. For that reason, someone wanted to use the game as a way of remembering someone close to them.

As spotted by The Gamer, Nexus Mods user VIIVII recently released “In Memory Of My Mom,” anOblivionmod that is a way of keeping the memory of their mother alive. The description says that she “passed away in January” and that she “was only 46.” This little tribute is a way for VIIVII to pay tribute to her as the mod itself consists of an altar that’s been placed just outside the Imperial City Prison, which means players who exit the first dungeon at the start of the game will see it. Although it’s described as “nothing fancy,” the altar is a way for the modder to cope with the loss of their mom, with the custom asset also featuring a note about how she can “live on in every adventure” the user takes.
It’s a very touching tribute, showing the more sensitive side to the gaming community. It’s also not the first time something like this has happened. A while back, aRed Dead Redemption 2fan said they were adapting the game into a novelfor their mom who loves stories, but doesn’t play video games.
What VIIVII has done is very sweet, as well as showing just how belovedTES4still is after all these years. There areplenty ofOblivionmodsout there for anyone who wants to get the most out of this influential RPG, and it’s nice to see that some people are able to use games to keep the memory of past loved ones alive in some form.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivionis available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
