While many consider the Disney Plus seriesObi-Wan Kenobia divisive point in theStar Warssaga, the excitement of seeing Ewan McGregor play the titular Jedi again was difficult to deny. But while the show’s finale seemed pretty cut and dry, many still wonder whether it will receive another season.

TheStar Warsstory told inObi-Wan Kenobiwas fairly self-contained, with a planet-hopping adventure that ultimately led to Obi-Wan better understanding himself and The Force. The end seemed to leave little room for more to tell, especially considering further developments had already been covered in other productions likeStar Wars Rebels. Despite that,McGregor seems confident thatObi-Wan Kenobiseason 2can still happen. But what does the show’s director think of the idea?

Deborah Chow, who directed all 6 episodes ofObi-Wan Kenobi, recently appeared onDeadline’sCrew Callpodcast and spoke about her time working on the show. However, she also addressed the oft-voiced question of whether she thinks it will (or should) get a second season, offering a rather blunt answer. “This was conceived as a limited series; it is closed,” Chow replied. Her comment seemingly definitively closes the book on such matters, at least for now. But there’s always something more withStar Wars. “There’s 10 more years beforeNew Hope,” she added, seemingly throwing fans a bone, “so never say never.”

The series saw plenty of setbacks, from afrustrating experience byObi-Wan Kenobiwritersto complications regarding filming during the height of COVID. It was pretty intense," Chow said of the COVID restrictions that threatened to shut down the production. “Anything with background was always stressful because we had little Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) running around.” Luckily, it seems that was one of the aspects that went as planned since they managed not to get shut down for those sorts of things.

As for the lack of a second season, it does make sense that there wouldn’t be plans for one sinceObi-Wan Kenobiwas originally supposed to be a movie. The more compact storyline featuring Obi-Wan’s disillusionment regarding The Force in the years following The Clone Wars was the right size for a film. Things got wrapped up rather nicely as he came to terms with his responsibility to his former apprentice Anakin, who became the fearsome Darth Vader despite Obi-Wan’s best efforts. It also gave fans the long-awaited reunion of McGregor and Hayden Christensen as Obi-Wan and Anakin again, which is certainly worth watching.

Sure, there’s always room for more stories to be told. This isStar Wars, after all. They could create an entire series revolving around a character who sneezes funny in the background of a single scene. Heck, this is the franchise that made theaquarium keeper inJedi: Survivora fan favorite. So sure, there could be more toObi-Wan Kenobisomeday. But fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
