Bethesda Softworks may be done iterating onThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimwith 2021’s Anniversary Edition, but modders continue to improve the experience as one recent change allows players to bash open locked doors and chests. Since the early days of open-world games, players have contemplated why they can’t simply kick in some doors that bar them from accessing certain areas, and thisSkyrimmod gives fans a unique way of breaching such barriers.
A recently releasedSkyrimmod may save fans the hassle and time of cracking locks with their lockpicks or Skeleton Keys by letting players bash them with certain weapons. Since the game’s 2011 release, many Dragonborn have minimized how many lockpicks they burn through by playing throughSkyrim’s Thieves Guildcampaign until the point in which they get the Skeleton Key. Beyond this in-game bypass to wasting valuable lockpicks, someSkyrimdoors also require keys, and others involve some puzzle solving, but this mod gives players an additional option.

The mod called Brute Force - Simple Lock Bash SKSE made bySkyrimmodder Edenstal92 lets players bash open locked doors and chests, but it has some limitations to prevent potential abuse of the system. AllSkyrimweaponsbeyond simple wood will be able to break novice, Steel, Draugr, Silver, and Falmer are required for apprentice, Falmer Honed, Dwarven, Elven, and Draugr Honed for adept, Glass, Orcish, and Ebony for expert, and Stahlrim, Nordic, Daedric, and Dragonbone for master locks. Given these restrictions, players will still be able to break through most locked doors and chests along the way if they’re following the mainSkyrimstory as better loot becomes available.
This Brute Force mod is a script extender plugin that may be added upon in the future as Edenstal92 has teased melting locks with potions created throughSkyrim’s alchemysystem or punching the locks until they break. According to Edenstal92, the mod won’t be getting spell support in the future because others already offer abilities that unlock the various obstacles, opting to create more immersive moments instead. Though there are other mods that do similar things to this one, Edenstal92 has confirmed that Brute Force isn’t compatible with such changes that exist to prevent possible crashes.
Because some players aren’t skilled atSkyrimlockpickingand others just don’t want to bother, Edenstal92’s Brute Force mod could give them a reason to open chests that they may have passed by in previous saves. The Brute Force mod may also provide players who roleplay as their Dragonborn inSkyrimanother outlet for their creativity if they’ve adopted a weapon-focused approach.
