Netflix originals won’t be limited to hit movies or bingeable series anytime soon, as the streaming company has just doubled down on its commitment to their animated efforts by booking new partnerships with four anime studios in Japan and Korea.
Over the past few years, Netflix has been steadily adding more and more content to their anime catalogue to pair up alongside American productions like thevery successfulCastlevaniaanimated series, but at the same time the streaming company has not been lazy by any means when it comes to producing new original anime thanks to their strategic efforts in Japan.

As noted by Netflix Anime Chief Producer, Taiki Sakurai, the streaming giant’s ambition has “built a dedicated team based in Tokyo that serves to entertain the global anime community through new and aspirational storytelling”, as part of theirplan to broaden their already vast libraryof available media.
This time around the companies set to make Netflix’s new anime offerings will be Studio MAPPA, Science SARU and Studio NAZ, all hailing from Japan, with South Korean Studio Mir also joining the recent announcement. These four can be added to the list of studios with whom Netflix had already established working deals, like Production I.G., Bones, Anima, Sublimation and David Production.
Some of the most notable anime put out by Netflix so far includeAltered Carbon: Resleeved(Anima) a spin-off on their ownAltered Carbonseries, as well asGhost in the Shell SAC_2045(Production I.G.) andDragon’s Dogma(Sublimation). It’s also worth mentioning that theJapan Sinks 2020series, a Netflix exclusive on release, was produced by one of the recently announced partners, Science SARU.
Even if not all of Netflix’s anime productions have managed to get positive reception from critics and audiences, the prospect of direct links to the studios that produced such hot properties likeGhost in the Shell,Fullmetal AlchemistorMy Hero Academiais surely a huge boost and signal of Netflix’s vision for the anime business. Meanwhile, there’s already a list of upcoming anime titles likeSpriggan,Vampire In The GardenandSuper Crooks, set to hit the streaming platform in 2021 and onward.
