Apple TV+comedy seriesMythic Quest: Raven’s Banquetwas forced to scrap its original season two scripts because of the pandemic. The second season of the critically acclaimed series is set to drop on the streaming platform this May.
Rob McElhenney, who is best known for playing Mac on the long-running FX seriesIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, co-created, executive produces, and stars inMythic Quest.McElhenney created the project alongside Megan Ganz and hisIt’s Always Sunnyco-starCharlie Day.The workplace comedy follows his character Ian Grimm, an egotistical creative director who runs a popular game calledRaven’s Banquet. The large ensemble cast includes David Hornsby as David Brittlesbee, Charlotte Nicdao as Poppy Li, Danny Pudi as Brad Bakshi, and F. Murray Abraham as C.W. Longbottom.

McElhenney recently toldComic Book Resourcesthat production was forcedto alter theirMythic Questseason two plansbecause of the pandemic.“It was miserable. We were devastated,” said the 44-year-old actor, while adding, “We had just worked for months, and we realized the world is different now and we can’t go shoot this season. Over the break, we wrote an entirely new season, and that’s what we shot." Hornsby teased the upcoming season ofMythic Questwill be different than the first, as side characters like Sue and Carol will have larger roles.
Mythic Quest’s season one finalesaw Ian provide overtime for his disgruntled staff and convince corporate to rehire David. The episode concluded with the stubborn boss promoting lead engineer Poppy to Co-Creative Director. Over the past year, two standalone specials titled “Quarantine” and “Everlight” have been released. “Quarantine” focused on how the staff was dealing with the pandemic and was shot remotely with computers and iPhones. The latest special was released last month and dealt with the ramifications of the staff finally returning to the office.
Mythic Questisn’t the only comedy series that will be returning to Apple TV+. This July, the second season ofTed Lassowill premiere on the streaming service. The Golden Globe-winning series centers on an American football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage an English Premier League team.Ted Lassostars Jason Sudeikis,Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, and Juno Temple. Last October, the series was renewed for a third season.
While the series will soon premiere, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for theMythic Questproduction. Over the course of filming since the pandemic truly hit North America, a number of crew members tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the production to shut down for a time and causing conflict with theMythic Questcreator.
The second season ofMythic Questwill premiere on Apple TV+ on May 7.
