Call of Duty Modern WarfareandWarzoneSeason 5 just began, introducing a ton of new content — includingsecret changes not mentioned in the Season 5 patch notes. Fans of Activision’s first-person shooter franchise are still waiting to hear about the upcomingCall of Duty 2020, rumored to beCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it seems more information may finally be coming early next week.
Activision sent out a mysterious crate to itsCall of Dutypartners today, including the news site Charlie Intel, that cannot be opened until Monday, August 10 at 12:00 p.m. ET. The box has a serial number printed on the top and a lock, but partners have to wait until the embargo period ends to receive the lock’s code via a text message from Activision.

While there is no official confirmation that this crate is related to the new game being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Charlie Intel expects that it will be. Activision saidCall of Duty 2020could be revealed through aWarzoneeventduring the conference call for its second-quarter financial report Tuesday, which also confirmed the nextCall of Dutyis planned to release this year, and that more info would be coming “fairly soon.”
Last month, aleaked Doritos promotion revealedCall of Duty 2020’s title and logo, as well as its release window in October. There has yet to be official confirmation regarding this leak, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, prior leaks and ongoing discussions from Activision regarding its upcoming game suggest players can expect a Cold War-themedCall of Dutyby the end of the year that strongly integrates with the battle royale titleWarzone.
That integration may have already begun, as players believe they found aBlack Ops Cold Warteaser inWarzone’s stadium. There is a computer hidden in the stadium that displays running vertical text styled likeThe Matrix, and the code appears to be based on Russian characters.
Interested fans will have to wait until Monday to find out if this mysterious crate sent out by Activision opens the floodgates for new information about the upcomingCall of Duty. In the meantime,Modern WarfareandWarzoneSeason 5 should give players plenty to keep themselves occupied, especially withPlayStation 4-exclusive content introduced intoModern Warfare.
