AKickstarter projectthat received 100% of its initial funding in just 16 days,Die by the Bladeimmediately caught the attention of fighting game fans, with its core one-hit-kill premise sounding incredibly novel at the time.Die by the Bladethen received its first proper reveal trailer in September 2021, followed by another gameplay trailer in September 2022, where a November 2023 release date was cemented.

Unfortunately,Die by the Bladewouldn’t hit its November 2023 release date. Technically the game’s fourth delay since it achieved its funding,Die by the Blade’s last delay thankfully looks to be its last, with the developer Grindstone now adamant that the game will release on August 02, 2025 for PC players. While its lengthy development period might not give the best first impression,Die by the Bladeshows a lot of promise. For fans of games likeMortal KombatandCyberpunk 2077, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Die By The Blade Boasts a “Samuraipunk” Design

Though it may not be the most cutting-edge video game out there in terms of visuals,Die by the Blademanages to cover up a lot of its visual shortcomings by offering players a unique “Samuraipunk” aesthetic. According to Grindstone,Die by the Blade’s art styleblends “traditional Japanese aesthetics with cyberpunk culture,” resulting in an array of neon-soaked alleyways, ancient forests, and brightly-lit dojos for players to battle in. For fans ofCyberpunk 2077,Die by the Blade’s art style is probably going to feel very familiar.

Die By The Blade Offers Intense 1v1 Battles

At its core,Die by the Bladeis a fighting game first and foremost, and though its uniqueSamuraipunk aestheticis a nice feature, Grindstone seems to put particular focus on the game’s responsive combat mechanics.Die by the Blade’s main gimmick is that players can die in a single hit. Naturally, this gives everyDie by the Bladematch a vivid layer of tension, where players are forced to rely upon their skill alone to dodge, parry, and stab their way to victory.

On launch,Die by the Bladeis set to feature an array of different swords that players can choose from, apparently all based ontraditional Japanese weaponry. Though it’s yet to be confirmed just how many weapons will beDie by the Bladeon launch, each one will give players a different moveset to experiment with, from katanas that rely on sweeping slashes, to dual-wield swords that focus on delivering fast, clean cuts.

A fairlydeep level of customizationwill also be available inDie by the Bladeat launch, allowing players to customize their weapon’s hilt, handle, and blade, along with some customization options for their player-character such as headwear. Right now,Die by the Bladeis slated for a May 14, 2025 release on PC, but according to Grindstone’s recent developer updates, an Xbox and PlayStation port is currently scheduled for October 2024.
