TheMortal Kombat 11Spawn DLC isn’t out until March 17 for Kombat Pack owners, but NetherRealm has released plenty about it online. This includes some of Spawn’s intro dialogue with various characters on the roster, and in typicalMortal Kombatfashion, this intro dialogue is packed with easter eggs and references. There’s even a reference to DC Comics superhero Batman, who Spawn references in a conversation withRaiden.

WhenMortal Kombat 11players have Spawn fight Raiden, the intro dialogue goes as follows:

Raiden: It seems we’re both well-traveled.

What’s interesting about this dialogue exchange is that it is identical to theleaked Spawn dialoguethat dataminers dug up all the way back in April of last year. This seems to indicate that much about Spawn was already decided on well before the character was actually added to the game. It may also lend some credibility to otherMortal Kombat 11leaks from around the same time, which may give fans an idea of what to expect in regards to future DLC.

In the meantime, this is far from the first time Batman has been referenced inMortal Kombat 11. The most obvious example is the fact thatBatman villain Jokeris already in the game as a DLC fighter, but there are other Batman references as well.

For example, the Joker’s addition toMortal Kombat 11came with some other DC Comics cosmetics for the game. This included someKiller Croc-themed cosmetics for Baraka, like a flag made out of the Arkham Asylum gate and bearing Batman’s symbol. Other members of Batman’s rogues gallery are also represented, with Noob Saibot getting a skin based on The Batman Who Laughs, and Kitana getting a Catwoman-themed skin.

It’s unclear ifMortal Kombat 11will add even more Batman references or if NetherRealm will instead focus on its next project. Based on the pattern established by the studio in the last decade, it’s a safe bet that anInjustice 3game would be next up, and that would likely include plenty of Batman characters. For now, though,NetherRealm Studiosis committed toMortal Kombat 11, and fans shouldn’t expect to learn about its next project until after the Spawn DLC is released.

Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
