Summary

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3may not be the best entry in the franchise, but it is certainly one of the most interesting. Its lackluster campaign has prevented it from reviewing well, but despite the lower-than-normal scores for the latest game in Activision’s unstoppable FPS franchise,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s salesare strong. This is likely due to the multiplayer being a return-to-form, as it leans into nostalgia with classic maps and brings back the old school mini-map as well as map voting. The positively received open-world Zombies mode could also be a contributing factor, though it and multiplayer could benefit greatly from the same feature.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies and multiplayer, just like with other entries, emphasize challenges. These come in several forms, ranging from Operator unlock challenges and daily challenges to tasks for camos and Calling Cards. Unfortunately, the game lacks an in-game challenge tracker for when players load into a multiplayer or Zombies match, meaning it will not be difficult to lose track of all there is to do. While players can memorize one or two challenges and focus on them completely, those with a limited amount of time to playCall of Dutywould surely like to maximize their minutes, something that a tracker could help with.

Why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Needs Challenge Tracking So Badly

Daily Challenges Are More Important Than Ever in Modern Warfare 3

In other modernCall of Dutygames, daily challenges are little more than an extra source of XP. While they do still provide this inModern Warfare 3, having them do only that would have been a mistake sincePrestige modeis not available at launch, meaning that the XP bonuses quickly become irrelevant. Enter the armory system, which requires players to complete daily challenges to unlock perks, weapons, killstreaks, and so on. While tying major unlocks to daily challenges has proven controversial, it is unlikely to go anywhere at this point, meaning completing at least three daily challenges per day is a must if players want to eventually have a full arsenal. Tracking would be a huge help here, as players trying to finish the tasks in one go would not have to memorize their three daily challenges before loading into a game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3also emphasizes weekly challenges, as players who keep up with them throughout the entirety of a season will get a special reward. For the pre-season, players can unlock a specialweapon camoby doing 5 weekly challenges in either Zombies or multiplayer, and just like with daily challenges, a tracker could help players complete several of them in one game.

Modern Warfare 3 Players Have a Lot of Camo and Calling Card Challenges To Remember

Beyond just daily and weekly challenges,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3players who also care about grinding for camos andCalling Cardswill have dozens of other challenges to work on. Whether it is killing 50 multiplayer opponents in tac stance or gunning down 250 Zombies while having four perks equipped, it is hard to keep track of what needs to be done for each gun if players are not grinding out camos one-by-one as they level up their weapon of choice. It only becomes harder to keep track when factoring in all the challenges needed to collect Calling Cards, as it is best to work on many of them while playing naturally.

A challenge pinning feature forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3could be as simple as selecting 5 or more challenges that can be viewed by opening the pause menu. Considering how convolutedCall of DutyHQalready is, adding one more button to the pause screen menu where players can view a list of their chosen challenges should not be too problematic. This way, they could track their moment-to-moment progress without needing to wait until they are back in a pre-game lobby, which would help with longer grinds like selling 100 pieces of Zombie meat. With hundreds of weapon camos and dozens of Calling Cards to work toward in addition to the now-essential daily challenges, as well as Missions for Zombies players, there is simply too much to remember, which can make playing feel more stressful than it should.
