Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is being primed for an almost guaranteed reveal during this week’s PlayStation Showcase. Nothing has been confirmed about it making an appearance there, but since fans know thatMarvel’s Spider-Man-related information is reserved for PlayStation Showcases, and the game is still scheduled to release somewhat soon, there is a high likelihood it does. There is a ridiculous amount of excitement leading into this particular showcase as a result, and it would be exciting to see whatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2has to offer with a full reveal.
Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Peter Parkerhas been added to the iconic catalog of interpretations the character has had since his conception. It was determined precisely how many fans adore Insomniac’s Peter when the PS4 face model was swapped out for one on PS5, and fans were sure to address their discontent. Yuri Lowenthal hasn’t changed as the acting talent for Peter, though, and his voice has become newly synonymous with the character himself. But because of Lowenthal’s recent work in games, it may be more difficult to discern a standout performance from him inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Yuri Lowenthal Now Plays Two Different Spider-Men
In what still seems like an odd choice if nothing else,Lowenthal was cast asMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ Spider-Man. This was not an odd choice based on Lowenthal’s acting ability, but rather the fact that he had recently become iconic for the role in another game. Of course, this unsurprisingly caused fans to wonder whether these Spider-Men were one and the same.
In fact, they are not. Having Peter split into two distinct interpretations like this is incredibly messy even if both portrayals are fantastic because Lowenthal is now spread thin with regard to the character. Likewise, hearing Lowenthal’s Peter inMarvel’s Midnight Sunsmay only make players think of the actor’s work inMarvel’s Spider-Man, where he originally appeared.
Marvel’s Midnight SunsandMarvel’s Spider-Manare wholly different games, but fans of the former have now heard Peter discuss Venom and Eddie Brock at length, which could make similar conversations inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2feel repetitive. It is a strange circumstance nonetheless, especially becauseMarvel’s Midnight Sunsdoesn’t seem to make an attempt at distinguishing its iteration of Peter apart fromMarvel’s Spider-Man’s in his lines or Lowenthal’s delivery.
Hi-Fi Rush’s Chai Has Key Spider-Man Humor
Lowenthal has an incredibly distinct voice as an actor, and it is usually easy to point it out in a game. Lowenthal certainly deserves roles as a protagonist in games as a result, but that might turn out to be a detriment to Insomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Manfranchise.Hi-Fi Rush’s Chaibears that same witty sarcasm and boyish charm, for example, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will need to push Lowenthal’s acting talent further if Peter is going to stand out from other Lowenthal characters.
It is easy to associate Chai with Peter for this reason, and Lowenthal’s Peter can’t afford to be a voice that fans associate with other games instead. This can be highly distracting, but it could also be a boon for Insomniac in the opposite way. If Lowenthal’s other performances all remind fans of his Peter, then that means Lowenthal is more synonymous with that role than others he has taken on recently.
It seems convenient that Lowenthal has landed such comparable characters recently. In this way, it would be exceptionalif Peter became an antagonist inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2in an effort to stretch that interpretation further and make it more distinct from Lowenthal’s other popular characters.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in fall 2023 for PS5.
