A new update to theYu-Gi-OhTrading Card Game’s banlist has seen more than 20 cards moving throughout the list, including several hits to powerful decks. The popular trading card game from Konami frequently sees updates to its Forbidden and Limited List every few months, adjusting limitations on powerful cards in the game’s meta. The last update from Konami saw theoverwhelmingly dominant “Tearlaments” deckreceive several major hits, including multiple bans and limitations. Now, the newest update from Konami has taken aim at several popular strategies.The previousYu-Gi-Ohbanlist saw the then-Tier 0 Tearlaments deck make way for another powerful strategy to come in and dominate the game in Kashtira. The powerful Xyz Monster-focused strategy brought several tools to the table, including the ability to lock your opponent’s zones and effects revolving around banishing cards. The recently released Cyberstorm Access booster set also saw decks like Purrely and Superheavy Samurai receive new cards that pushed them into meta contention. Themed Menu in JapanKonami officially revealed the newest update toYu-Gi-Oh’s Forbidden and Limited List Saturday morning, confirming the changes would go into effect on June 5. The new update sees five cards added to the Forbidden section,including bothYu-Gi-Ohstaple cardslike “Cyber-Stein” and deck-focused hits like “Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker” and “Superheavy Samurai Scarecrow.” The Limited section features a mix of banned cards returning to the game like “Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos” and newly limited cards like “Kashtira Arise-Heart.”

The banlist update features six cards moving to the Semi-Limited strategy, including powerful archetypal cards like “Runick Fountain,” “Kashtira Unicorn,” and"Spright Starter" among others. The fan-favorite “Sky Striker” deck was also affected by the new banlist with “Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage!” bumped up to two copies per deck. Seven different cards were freed from the Forbidden & Limited List through the new update with popular archetypes like SPYRAL, Blackwing, and Lyrilusc featured. Despite complaints from many fans, the date for the game’s next banlist update would be left ambiguous once again, simply coming “a few months from now.”
The newest banlist changes look to hit the consistency and power of some ofYu-Gi-Oh’s most prominent decks. Kashtira would see multiple targeted hits between the previously mentioned “Diablosis” and “Arise-Heart,” as well as “Kashtira Unicorn” being semi-limited. Other popular decks like Branded would also see changes from the deck with controversial Trap card “Branded Expulsion” banned. Konami’s new changes will hope to majorlyshake upYu-Gi-Oh’s metaahead of the game’s National Championships season.
