LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais the latest installment in the long-runningLEGOseries of gamesfrom Warner Bros. Interactive and Traveller’s Tales. It pushes the series in some new directions while retaining important features like having a large roster of playable characters to choose from, near-endless collectibles to find, and local co-op support. With local co-op becoming increasingly rare in the gaming industry, theLEGOgames' support of it has always been appreciated, butLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagabotches the co-op experience in more ways than one.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagauses a new viewing angle than previous games in the series, which means that the days of same-screenLEGOco-op are over. Instead of same-screen co-op, the entireLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagaco-op experienceis played in split-screen, which isn’t a bad change. The problems arise with the performance ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawhen playing in co-op, as the co-op experience is poorly optimized, resulting in all kinds of technical issues and headaches.

When playingLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagain co-op, fans can count on the game crashing at regular intervals, at least as it pertains to the Xbox Series X version. When playing the game in co-op for a few hours, it’s highly likely that it will crash at least two to three times within that period of time. Other glitches arise as well that may not cause crashes in and of themselves, but still require players to restart the game if they hope to proceed normally.
Most of theLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagaco-op crashes seem to be random, but there is one character that can cause the game to crash consistently, at least in our testing. When playing in co-op, if the co-op partner tries to play as Jedi Master Shaak Ti, the game crashes every single time. The first-player can choose Shaak Ti and play as her as much as they want, but the second-player is out of luck. It’s possible that this issue could happen with other members ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s massive rosteras well, but it for sure happens with Shaak Ti.
Another issue thatLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagaplayers will experience when playing the game in co-op is the character select menu popping up constantly. Certain actions done by the co-op partner seems to trigger the character select menu popping up for the other player. Sometimes this happens whentalking toLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker SagaNPCs, other times it seems to be triggered by the other player making a character change.
Whatever the reason for the problem, it’s clear thatLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagaco-op still needs a lot of work done. TheLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagarelease date was delayed a number of times, but it still could have benefited greatly from some more time in the oven.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
