Over the last few months, the next entry in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise has been something of a hot topic throughout the industry. A number of massive leaks and rumors have made their way online, detailing everything from the game’s alleged title,Ragnarok,to major gameplay changes, and apotential co-op mode. Fans believed they had a pretty clear idea of where the franchise would be heading next, however, a new comment from a trusted insider has thrown that into doubt.

Posting on ResetEra, Daniel Ahmed (or ZhugeEx as he goes by on the site) revealed that a lot of the information supposedly leaked about the newAssassin’s Creedby other insiders is false. “For what it’s worth. All of the new AC leaks so far have been incorrect,” he claims, adding, “It’s not even called Ragnarok.”

He goes on to clarify that some of the details are truthful, citing that “improved combat” is indeed a major new aspect in the upcoming sequel, however, he doubles down that “in general [the rumors are] not that accurate.” Of course, there’s no guarantee that Ahmed is being entirely truthful, however, he does have a trusted reputation as an industry insider and has leaked numerous truthful stories in the past. It seems more and more likely thatAssassin’s Creed’snext entry will be vastly different from how leaks have presented it in the past, meaning fans will be in for quite the shock whenUbisoft decides to reveal it.

For those unaware, theoriginal rumorssurrounding the nextAssassin’s Creeddepicted the game as centering around Nordic mythology and Viking culture. While the setting seems more than likely to still be accurate, it’s the recent slate of supposed gameplay features that seemed more dubious, with alleged leakers claiming the game would have customizable settlements and integrated co-op. Although Ahmed doesn’t elaborate on exactly which leaks are fake outside of theRagnaroksubtitle, the recent slate of rumors seem like the most likely candidates.

Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see exactly what the nextAssassin’s Creedlooks likewhen it releases at the end of the year. Going into the next generation, it seems more than likely that this newest iteration of the iconic series will be the largest and most expansive to date, which will no doubt be incredibly exciting to fans. Hopefully, whateverAssassin’s Creed’snext major outing turns out to be, it’ll be ready to revolutionize the franchise once more.

An untitledAssassin’s Creedsequel is confirmed for 2020 but has yet to be officially revealed.
