The four basic game modes are called World Trip, Online Versus, COM Versus, and Double Play. World Tour is essentiallyMelody of Memory’s story mode, and what the rest of the modes take their foundation from. The player will unlock and travel to different worlds by completing the music associated with them. The difficulty of the music is determined by one of three chosen difficulty settings. From easiest to hardest, they are called “Beginner,” “Standard, and “Proud.”

The player can also choose how their inputs work. Just likeMelody of Memory’s difficulty settings, there are three types to choose from, and they’re called “Normal Style,” “One Button Style,” and “Performer style.” Normal Style is the standard button operation. One Button Style allows players to use just one button throughout the entire song, and Performer Style makes players press more buttons than usual.

Every song inMelody of Memorycategorizes into “Stages,” in which there are three different types: Feild Battles, Boss Battles, and Memory Dives. Field Battles pit the player againstKingdom Heartsmusic related to world exploration. This battle is the most basic type and will see players destroying commonKingdom Heartsenemies.

Boss Battles are self-explanatory. The player fights variousKingdom Heartsbossesby sticking to the beat of the boss' associated music track. Finally, Memory Dives work like Feild Battles, only there are no enemies to destroy, and the music featured is associated with a specific character or uses vocals.

As for the last three game modes, Online Versus pits fans against players around the world. There’s a feature involved called “tricks” that allow players to mess with their opponents as they compete for high scores in a song. COM Versus pits the player against a computer-controlled opponent. It has a ranked system, and the more the player defeats the computer, the higher the rank they’ll achieve.
