Summary
Kai Cenat spent nearly six hours fighting an optional early-gameElden Ringboss until finally managing to overcome it. The move marked a rough start for the content creator’sElden Ringmarathon.
Themost-most watched Twitch streamerhas long been in the habit of hosting long-form broadcasts. This type of content didn’t always revolve around gaming, with Kai Cenat’s previous marathons seeing him do things like go on a date and enroll in a karate class. But the 22-year-old has returned to marathon game streams as of late, having most recently tackledElden Ring. As per usual, the concept of this ongoing broadcast is for him to keep streaming until he manages to beat the game, so that he’s mostly just alternating between sleeping and gaming for days on end.

Kai Cenat’s Elden Ring Marathon Is Off to a Rough Start
The effort started at 6pm ET on Friday, May 10, with Kai Cenat immediately getting off to a rough start. Namely, after picking the Samurai starting class at the chat’s behest and going through the tutorial area, the streamer spent approximately five and a half hours trying todefeatElden Ring’s Tree Sentinel. This period saw him succumb to essentially every single one of the boss’s attacks, ranging from his stab and rearing slam to the distance-closing leap and all types of swings, as well as Golden Retaliation. Over 100 deaths later, Kai Cenatfinally managed to beat the Tree Sentinel5 hours and 52 minutes into the game.
What makes this feat of perseverance extra impressive is the fact that the Tree Sentinel isn’t just optional, but meant to be avoided until much later in the game. The way FromSoftware designed its open-world RPG is for players to often hit a boss wall that encourages them to explore more, get stronger, and then try again later. ManyElden Ringplayers will hence naturally exact revenge on the Tree Sentinellater on, which also goes for many of the game’s other bosses.

Kai Cenat’s Twitch Mods Are Making His Elden Ring Playthrough More Difficult
The reason Kai Cenat was initially oblivious to this fact is that his Twitch mods have been making things more difficult for him from the get-go. Namely, they banned the word “skip” and many of its synonyms and variants from chat shortly after he reached the Tree Sentinel, preventing viewers from easily offering some succinct advice. He was then directed to immediately tackle Margit, the Fell Omen, which is one of the least advisable decisions for a newcomer. At that point, his Twitch mods banned the word “summon” from the chat to prevent viewers from pointing him to Spirit Ashes or a nearby NPC, both of which make the fight easier by virtue of splitting aggro.
Kai Cenat has been getting the hang of the game ever since, having spent 35 more hours on it after beating Margit around the 10-hour mark. As of the afternoon hours ET on May 12, he’s at level 48, and has managed to explore enough of Limgrave, Caelid, and Liurnia of the Lakes to procure all of their map fragments and fell many of their bosses. He’s still using a dual katana build, but has ignored the chat’s incessant requests to level Vigor above everything else and is currently trying to get to the Altus Plateau with only 29 points in this crucial stat. This has predictably resulted in a lot of painful experiences due to how easily his character dies to everything, withoneElden Ringboss even making Kai Cenat cry out of frustration.
