There are more than a few dream teams out there in the world of entertainment, whether they be actors with fantastic chemistry or an actor and director who always seem to make magic when they take on a project together. One such pairing is director Rian Johnson and always entertaining actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
After first working together nearly 20 years ago in 2005’s neo-noir curiosityBrick, the two didn’t collaborate again until2012’s time-travel thrillerLooper. Now, the duo is teaming up once more for the first time in a decade for Johnson’s upcoming new series onPeacockknown asPoker Face, so expectations are bound to be high.

Variety reports that Gordon-Levitt has just joined the project, set to star alongsideRussian Dollstar Natasha Lyonne, who waspreviously announced as the lead onPoker Face. The show will feature Lyonne’s currently unnamed character solving a new murder every episode, perhaps like a slightly more frizzyColumbo. Aside from that, little is known about the series other than the involvement of Johnson and now Gordon-Levitt, whose character is also currently unrevealed.
This will be the third time Johnson and Gordon-Levitt have collaborated on a project, and fans of the two might want to keep an eye on its progress. Johnson has a particular knack for mysteries and intrigue in his movies, particularly notable inthe deceptively smartKnives Out(as well as its upcoming sequel, no doubt). So it will be very interesting to see how his style translates to television, particularly after guest directing 3 ofBreaking Bad’s most memorable (and arguably divisive) episodes.
Levitt has also proven himself as a remarkably versatile actor over the years. His comedic chops were immediately on display in his breakout role on3rd Rock From the Sun, a series following a squad of aliens attempting to gather intel while blending in as a human family in Ohio. But it wasn’t long before he branched out into more serious realms withmind-boggling hits likeInceptionandLooper. Of course, he still kept up with his comedy roots through the years, with romantic comedy500 Days of Summerparticularly endearing him to audiences. (Granted, he also appeared inG.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, so nobody’s perfect.)
Poker Facedefinitely looks like a project worth keeping an eye on. Between the always unpredictable direction of Johnson and the well-proven abilities of both Lyonne and Gordon-Levitt, it’s bound to be a real experience. Now to wait for either a release date announcement or some more new cast members, whichever comes first.
