This obsession with living a normal, quiet life has led Kira to stay true to this routine, even if it means killing those who get in his way.
Obsession is Dangerous
Periodically in the show, Kira’s obsessive habits are made known. Things like keeping nail clippings in a bag, copying Kosaku Kawajiri’s handwriting, and fixing Koichi’s socks display how intense Kira’s compulsions are no matter the danger. Still, Kira instead uses this to his advantage, allowing complete control over his life and the ability to kill without being caught.
Kira is intelligent; he knows thathe’ll be sent to prisonif he’s caught. To avoid this, he creates a reality where there is nothing abnormal about him. Every day he goes to work, keeps his appearance neat, and he’s never in 1st place. As long as Kira is present but not in the spotlight, no one will notice him, and with his obsession, he has the capability of appearing perfect. The only genuine spontaneity Kira has is when he kills.

Right before its time to kill, Kira’s nails grow, a sign to Kira that it’s safe to take his next victim. There is no planning when this can happen, but when it does, and Kira has a woman in sight, nothing will stop him.With the use of his stand, Kira can follow the women home, blow up everything but their hands, leaving no evidence that there was ever a crime. Kira feels alive in these moments, unlike when he dons his façade.
Transformation into the Unknown Killer
Murderous intentions don’t happen overnight; before discovering his fetish for hands, Kira was the son of Yoshihiro Kira. Yoshihiro was extremely protective of his son and wanted nothing more than for Kira to be happy. This leads Yoshihiro to use the standing arrow he obtained to give Kira his own stand and use his own to stay in the mortal world after death. Even after his identity is revealed, Kira had the knowledge needed to use Aya Tsuji’s stand to change his face. He was able to replicate the identity of Kosaku Kawajiri, use the stand arrow to increase his power, and nearly kill Josuke. In the end, he could have reset time and continued to live his life without anyone discovering him. What stopped Kira wasn’t Jotaro’s Star Platinum or Reimi’s strength to continue on and find her killer. In the end, Kira’s final end is from a dog.
