There are many ways thatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers can make money in the game, though some are more lucrative than others. One of the most popular money making methods inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis by farming so-called Spider Islands, as tarantulas go for a whopping 8,000 bells apiece when they’re sold to the Nook’s Cranny shop. However,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsfans are finding it more difficult to create Spider Islands in the game this past month, and there’s an interesting reason why that is.

Nintendo didn’t patch out theability to make Spider Islands inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsas some fans have theorized. On the contrary, a new bug type that was introduced to the game at the beginning of April is causing the trouble. The new giant water bug inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis making it more difficult for spiders to spawn on Spider Islands, as they are occupying spawn slots that would otherwise be used by tarantulas. To make matters worse, giant water bugs inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsare sometimes difficult to spot, and they rarely flee if players run to them like other bugs. Basically, to get rid of giant water bugs, players will need to catch them.

Giant water bugsaren’t worth as much bells as tarantulas inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons(they can be sold for just 2,000 bells), and so having one occupy an inventory slot is not ideal. The solution then would be to release the giant water bug, though another one could spawn right after, making the process of creating and farming a Spider Island much more tedious than it has been in the past.

Unfortunately forAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans, there isn’t really a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to this Spider Island problem. Giant water bugs will be in the game until September, so players will have to deal with them until then.Tarantulas, meanwhile, will be leavingAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsat the end of April, and won’t return to the game until November, so the Spider Island trick will soon be completely useless.

That is, unless players utilizeAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' time traveling methods. For the uninitiated, players can change the time and date on their Switch systems in order to “time travel” inNew Horizons. This is effectively cheating, though, and so it’s generally frowned upon in theAnimal Crossingcommunity. Regardless, it’s still one way players can ensure that they always have Spider Islands in their game.

While some fans may be disappointed that spiders are leavingAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsin May, perhaps next month will bring new expensive bugs that players will be able to sell instead. TheAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsbug listchanges on a monthly basis, so fans will just have to have a bug catching net at the ready to catch whatever new species they happen to come across in the game.
