A studio renowned for its work on family-friendly games, it only makes sense that Insomniac Games would move on to work with Marvel. And while Insomniac’s Marvel output has so far been a little darker than the likes ofSpyro the DragonandRatchet and Clank, they’ve still retained that distinct Insomniac charm and heart. That element might be a little harder to capture in its upcoming title,Marvel’s Wolverine.

WhileMarvel’s Wolverinewill undoubtedly lean closer toMarvel’s Spider-Manthan theuber-violent and bloodyX-Men Origins: Wolverine, it’s surely going to be quite a departure from Insomniac’s first few Marvel games in a few major ways. But despite all of its possible divergences,Marvel’s Wolverineis likely to take one big aspect directly fromMarvel’s Spider-Man, and that’s giving the rugged hero a brand new look.

Marvel’s Wolverine Will Probably Get An All-New Suit

WhenMarvel’s Spider-Manwas first announced back in 2016, it debuted right alongside a now-iconic trailer. After a voice-over mentions that the whole of New York City relies on “a guy from Queens” to keep them safe, and the audience has just long enough to build their hopes for who might rush on to screen, Spider-Man zips right in front of the camera. However, it wasn’t the same Spider-Man many fans were expecting. Instead of wearing the classic comic book red and blue suit, the red and black suit, or eventhe MCU Stark suit, this version of Spider-Man had its own defining feature, a bright white spider, along with white accents along the rest of the suit.

At the end of the announcement trailer, that same white spider took over the screen, with a bright red background behind it. This symbol became the icon forMarvel’s Spider-Manmoving forward, and it continues to define the character nearly seven years later. Insomniac made a bold decision to put that big white spider on Spidey’s chest, with Spider-Man’s suits being a real sticking point for many fans, but thankfully, it’s gone down as one of the most iconic suits in the hero’s long history. Its colors have made it instantly recognizable wherever fans see it, whether it’s on merchandise, or inthe background ofSpider-Man: Across the Spiderverse.

With how wellSpider-Man’s new look went down, it’s very likely that Insomniac will want to repeat that same level of success withMarvel’s Wolverine. It’s extremely possible that Wolverine’s costume in the upcoming game will have some sort of standout feature, making it instantly recognizable for both new and long-time fans alike. This standout feature probably won’t change Wolverine’s iconic look too much, but it’ll be big enough to spot in a crowd.

The most likely change to Logan’s suit inMarvel’s Wolverineis an introduction of a new color.Wolverine’s classic yellow, black, and blue suithas been a staple of the character since his first introduction in 1974, and it seems unlikely that Insomniac will want to mess with that too much. Rather than a complete redesign, Wolverine’s costume might just have a new accent color. Insomniac could even pull directly fromSpider-Manand give Wolverine white highlights on his gloves, chest, arms, and sides, swapping out where the black highlights usually go. Alternatively, Insomniac could add an extra accessory to Wolverine’s usual getup, maybe giving him a jacket to wear on top of the classic costume, or some kind of 90s comic-era Rob Liefeld pouches. WithMarvel’s Midnight Sunsrecently knocking out of the park when it comes to different Wolverine appearances, Insomniac has a tough act to follow.
