Hogwarts Legacydevelopers Moira Squier and Kelly Murphy recently spoke to German site GamePro (as translated by The Game Spoof) about the game’s lack of romance options. According to Squier, the decision was made toleave romance options out ofHogwarts Legacybecause it would be “difficult to manage” with Murphy pointing out that the game’s main character is only 15 years old. “There are things that we just didn’t want to touch on thematically.” Considering the age of the characters and how admittedly clumsyHarry Potterhas been with love interests in the past, it is likely for the best thatHogwarts Legacyis not implementing romance options.
WhileHogwarts Legacywill not have romance options, players can still develop relationships with the friends that they make at the school. EachHogwarts Househas a specific companion that players can interact with and complete quests for, strengthening their relationship with that particular character in the process.
Hogwarts Legacydoes not have romance options, but other video games in theHarry Potterfranchise have offered the feature. For example, the visual novel gameHogwarts Mysteryeventually added dating and romance optionswhen the characters got older, so perhaps aHogwarts Legacysequel or DLC could experiment with it. For now,Hogwarts Legacyplayers will have to enjoy their adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry without worrying about any potential romance options.
